SLP in Houston, TX Area that Specializes in Apraxia?

I live in the Houston, TX area (northwest/Cypress area) and I am searching for

answers. One of my sons has a chromosomal syndrome that not much is known about

(many who have it have no issues, some have many issues) called Chromosome

22q11.2 Duplication Syndrome. He was also recently said to be autistic by two

different professionals, however the more and more I know about autism and

apraxia, I feel he is apraxia is the reason he cannot speak well. He contantly

" talks " and babbles so he isn't non-verbal. Most people just cannot understand

most of what he says. He repeats the same thing when asked to since it's like he

is really saying something. This past week we were on vacation and I taught him

to say " 1, 2, 3 " and show it on his fingers and then jump to me. He learned

quickly but his " 1, 2, 3 " isn't clear at all no matter how much he tries. It's

like his brain has it but his mouth can't form it. Anyway, he isn't currently

getting one on one private speech in the summer since our insurance doens't

cover it. He is going to a two day a week summer program that a speech language

pathologist and PPCD teacher teach though. Once the school year starts, he will

start PPCD again and we'll have another ARD to try and get him a lot more speech

than he is getting at school. However, with all of the budget cuts (mostly in

special ed) in the school district, I am not confident that there will be anyone

knowledgeable in apraxia there to help him. I have applied for some grants to

try and get some more speech for him but haven't heard back yet.

My question is this... does anyone know of a really good SLP in the Houston or

Cypress area that specializes in diagnosing and treating apraxia or any other

related issue. There are so many things that I don't even know to ask for but I

want to find a SLP that can really look at his mouth and see if there are

structural issues and also knows how to test for and treat apraxia and other

issue it could be. I have ask our neurologists and pediatrician and the place he

goes for OT and PT and they all look at me like they don't even know what

apraxia is. It's frustrating. Any suggestions on a great SLP or someone who can

help us get the right diagnosis would be wonderful. Thanks goodness for fish

oils and NV, he is making strides but I want to get him all the help I can. I

also saw info on something called Kauffman kit? What is this? Would an SLP do

this or me?

As you can see, I am lost in a see of all sorts of fancy diagnostic words and

don't know what to do.
