As New Jersey's Family to Family Health Information Center, a project of Family Voices-New Jersey at SPAN, we share these stories with you so that together we can make a difference. New Jersey Statewide Parent to Parent New Jersey Parent to Parent, a collaboration between SPAN and the Family Support Center of NJ, is a statewide network of parents supporting families of children with developmental delays, disabilities, and special health needs. Remember to wash your hands with soap and water; use hand sanitizer if soap is not available; use a tissue or your sleeve to cover your mouth or nose to prevent the spread of germs if you are coughing or sneezing; get the H1N1 flu vaccine if you are in one of the priority groups; and stay home when you are sick. Davy has announced the posting of the Department of Education's new web page related to H1N1 influenza planning and preparedness. Centers for Disease Control New Parent Portal The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has a new resource available for parents. The CDC has created a Parent Portal to help parents find information to give children healthier, safer lives. The CDC Parent Portal organizes and presents information for parents and provides resources from across CDC, all in one location, making it easier for parents to find what they are looking for. Welcoming and Involving New Students and Families The beginning of a new school year is a good time to look at how students and families experience your school. How can teachers, support staff, and administrators make the experience of returning to school more welcoming and supportive. For more ideas and resources see: Welcoming and Involving New Students and Families - Guidelines, strategies, and resource aids for planning, implementing, and evolving programs to enhance activities for welcoming and involving new students and families in schools. Resources That Can Help Parents and Children Substance Abuse & Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA) and the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) have tools that will help your keep kids mentally healthy and drug free. Parent Training Modules on Promoting Children's Social and Emotional Skills These modules provide information for families on how to promote children's social and emotional skills, understand their problem behavior, and use positive approaches to help them learn appropriate behavior.
