Guest guest
Do you know if anyone has heard of the program called Fundations? It is a reading program based on phonologic coding, it is suppose to internalize the child's ability to analyze the structure of words in English and apply their understanding of that structure when reading and spelling. This program specifically addresses the learning style of students with a language based learning disability. However, my question is, will this adversely affect a child with verbal apraxia? Although my child has very minor verbal apraxia, I am concerned that this may not be the correct approach. The school system wants to place him in the basic skills group, although he received a 3 in his DRA (Developmental Reading Assessment)at the end of Kindergarten. His score tells us that he was reading on grade level at that time. However, the test associated with this Fundations program shows him below level. Any feedback would be appreciated. Somehow, my mind keeps telling me the system wants him in the program because it is a Title 20(I think) funding. Therefore, not enough children, then no money. Thanks, Kathy
