The tests my son has had (mostly run by neurologist) were:

Hearing Test (I would make sure your son has been tested on this first,

especially with speech issues)

MRI of the brain

Genetics testing (full panel) - I know not everyone has gone this route but my

son had a complete genetic testing, this is where they look at each chromosome

from one end to the other looking for breaks in it (vs. some of the older

testing which just checks the end of hte chromosome). In my son's case we

found out that he is missing a segment on one of the chromosomes and I think

this information may help us in better understanding treatment and directoin.

Metabolic testing (tests for things like amino acids, etc)

Sleep study (only if you are noticing any sleep issues)

I would also make sure that someone trained in oral motor does an assessment to

see that this isn't causing the issues.

Best of luck to you.

[ ] Developmental Exams

My son has an appt today with a developmental specialist and I am curious why

kinds of testing your kids had to rule out other things before being diagnosed.

I want to have all my ducks in a row. Also, for treatment purposes, what kinds

of things should be in her report? I know that she cannot diagnose and that

they wouldn't diagnose him at this age (20mon) but I want him to qualify for

good treatment. Thanks for any advice!
