Guest guest
My advice is go with your gut feeling. Flu shots are optional. If they were really needed that desperately they would be compulsory. I have never in my life had a flu shot and neither have my kids. I have also never heard of anyone dying of flu in the developed world (besides very old people who are weak anyway). Hope this helps Inga

Guest guest
I agree, go with your gut feeling. I too think 's first episode was after his immunizations. Looking back at his records, after each of his shots he got very high fevers. At that time, I had no idea about and I just thought my son " reacted " poorly to shots. The flu shot is a gamble really. Last year it did not catch ANY of the strains and was completely ineffective. This year, apparantly the dosage is really strong to try to avoid the problem from last year. People have lost a lot of faith in the companies who make this shot. I got the flu really bad once and I aked the doctor if a shot would have prevented it and he said no, the strain I had (and the strain that was going around that year) was not contained in the vaccine...this was back in December of 2004 I can understand where you are coming from. For some of us, these shots are a really tough decision. My son has been fever free since May (T & A) and we have not decided on the shot yet either. Guest guest
When considering whether or not to get the flu shot, you really should discuss it with your child's Doctor and then look up the facts from the CDC website whom publishes the statistics of pediatric- related deaths ... as there were 83 confirmed cases last season in the USA. Last season the numbers of deathes rose from recent years. Those were only ones that were confirmed by lab results, as I'm sure there were many more than that. In addition, hundreds of children had to be hospitalized due to the flu. I get the flu shot for my children every year. A few years ago I did not, and both my girls ended up violently ill with it for over two weeks. I would never want to see them that sickly again, and feel very fortunate we didn't end up in the hospital with them or worse. The flu can be very bad, especially in kids with immuno-compromised systems, and other types of diseases, such as asthma. I haven't heard many good things about the " live " flu shot though which is given via a nasal mist, as that has been known to cause the flu and is also not recommended to give to sick children as the ones I mentioned in the last paragraph. But it's your choice since this is not a mandatory immunization. These choices are not easy to make, but should be made after you get all the facts and with your Doctor. The flu can be deadly even in very healthy children and adults too. Heidi Mommy of Mason 8 years old (post sigmoid volvulus, sigmoid colon resection 9/11/03), numerous intestinal surgeries, CIAS1 gene mutation at 703K, asthma, Periodic Fever Syndrome of unknown origin, g-tube surgery which saved his life in 10/07 and finally growing again Amber, 12 years old, hearing loss, asthma, post-tonsillectomy , 15 years old, Crohn's disease and happily married to of 15 years

Guest guest
My son also did not start fevering until right after his first flu shot. We have stopped all of his shots including immunizations, because we feel that it is best for him. The doctors give us grief everytime we go, but I have stuck with my gut & have no regrets. Our son has been fever free for 3 months following his T & A, but we still have no intentions on resuming any shots at this point. Stick with your gut feeling, whichever way it may lead you. Hope this helps, Melody

Guest guest
I was on the fence, but our ped insisted on my son getting it as he's in preschool & we have a little baby. As a side note, my brother in law, niece, and nephew were hospitalized with complications from the flu last year(which I didn't know still happened nowadays!) so I was more inclined to get it this year. My son did get a mild fever 2 days following the shot so I was completely regretting our decision BUT it turned out that he picked up a REAL virus - double ear infection and all! My daughter and I also caught the virus from him(aches and all) & neither of us had the flu shot. Good luck with your decision.
Guest guest
I was struggling with whether to get the flu shot or not. Both my boys have been getting the flu shots for the last 4 years. Last year I had a very bad case of the flu as did my husband (we did not get flu shots) the boys did not get sick. Since Landon's T & A on Sept. 8th he has been fever free. It will be nine weeks Sat. We are so happy, life has been great! I did get Landon the flu shot Tues. I was very indecisive, I do not want to rock the boat if you know what I mean. So far no fever, but with that said I do not remember him fevering from it in the past, at least not a high fever. I hope I did the right thing but after last year I am a firm believer in the flu shot. Best of luck to all! Jackie mom to 8 (no fevers) and to Landon 5 fevering since a baby, fever free since T & A Sept. 8,

Guest guest
Here in California you cannot attend school without the immunization shots, how do you get around this law where you live. My son was so far behind in shots from the time he was born due to him running a temp. everytime he had to get a shot. They just skipped them until the next appointment which ended up the same? But in order to start school he had to get a bunch all at once, and not even a temp after but I was scared. good luck on any choices you all make remember there yours to make be strong for the little ones. char ************** AOL Search: Your one stop for directions, recipes and all other Holiday needs. Guest guest
I guess I have to think on this one some more. Just stinks thats a mom has to make these awful decisions. She isn't in daycare right now so I think I'm gonna just bypass it this year...my husband and teenage daughter got one...so they would be the only two that would bring it home to us. Yes my little one was tested for egg allergy...she doesn't have it...she loves eggs. My dr was all over me to get her one and I was hesitant b/c I didn't know if she was allergic at the time...so he tested her in his office b/c he was so dead set for her to get the shot. Now in hind sight...I don't know if that is what started this whole mess. Then the grandparents are flippin out over the thought of me not giving her the flu shot....we'll see....I'm the Mama. Thanks for your advice
Guest guest
There is actually a waiver under California law that you can sign. That's what we've done since my daughter's vaccinations are also behind because of her fevers.

Guest guest
Hi, We gave the flu mist, and it didn't disrupt his cycle at all. As a matter of fact, his fever arrived just on time, but the bizarre thing is that it only lastedabout 2 days and it was at 101.5 at the highest (we are used to 103.5-105.9). My daughter got the shot, and she had a low grade fever for a couple of days. Just thought you may be interested, as I haven't seen any posts abot the mist.
