I have a three and a half year old son that cannot speak yet. The few words he does know, mama, dada and bye-bye sound like he's a deaf child trying to sound out the words. He gets so frustrated because he can't communicate what he wants with us. I have taught him some sign language, but, he rarely uses it to tell me what he wants. It is usually used to show me what he sees, like a bug or a flower. He never does multiple signs at a time. Only one sign. > > He also has had motor skill delays as well. He didn't walk until he was 17-18 months old and at that it was very wobbly. He never learned to crawl. Recently he has tried to jump, but his legs are very stiff. He jumps from his heels and lands on his heels, so he doesn't go very high and he lands abruptly rather than smoothly on the balls of his feet. He also has sensory issues in his mouth (I have to hold him down to brush his teeth) and also has drooling, indicating underdeveloped mouth muscles, although I nursed him until he was 14 months. > > I plan to home school him, but was wondering since I am going to need to have special care for him where are the resources that I could take advantage of to help him? For the most part, I believe immunizations are unnecessary since our society is handling it's food and waste in a sanitary manner, much of our diseases were well on their way out before immunizations were introduced. But, unfortunately, our school system won't allow children to attend if their shot records aren't up to date. Could you please direct me to the nearest location to the Montgomery AL area where I could find some help for him? I know there are OT services offered at the hospital in town, I just don't know if they know enough about apraxia to sufficiently treat him. > > Thank you, > > Romesa > > ~~~~~~~~~~ > > ===== >
