Guest guest
From our experience, I would say absolutely not. My son started PROMPT when he was 27mos old and FLOURISHED! We started PROMPT at 27mos with 3-4 words, which were all unintelligible. Now is 33mos and is speaking in 8-10 word sentences with use of pronouns, correct sentence structure, etc. There's lots left to do with articulation, but most people can understand him. I do have to add that he has a milder verbal apraxia, but still, I credit PROMPT with his speedy transformation. I cannot say enough positive things about it. It is pretty aggressive/hands on with the face, so that would be the only concern about a younger child - will they let someone get in their space and touch their face? Our speech therapist said it can sometimes take time for some of the kids to get used to the level of hands-on, but once they see it's helping them they come around usually. I am thankful DAILY for finding a good PROMPT therapist. Good luck! Guest guest
NO, 24months is NOT too young. A lot of the therapy will be done through play but also some structured activities to address oral motor skills AND speech production. When you find the right SLP, (one who uses structured oral motor exercises (Talk Tools), PROMPT, Beckman stretches, and Kaufman tech, then he/she will be skilled in how to engage a younger child in play during therapy but also use PROMPT. Let me know if you have further questions. Guest guest
I am a PROMPT certified SLP on LI, NY. I decided to become certified many years ago because I found traditional oral motor therapy so slow. I also stuttered severely as a child and sympathized with these children who were working so hard to speak. I have found that is speeds up word production and improves intelligibility more rapidly. Of course every child is different but I wanted to share this with you. tks for reading.
