Guest guest
Hi - I am writing from London and saw your wonderful website for late talking or speech impaired children. My child is 3 next month and still doesn't talk or understand much. He is sociable and doesn't quite fit into the Autism Spectrum quite yet so we are getting his hearing checked again and giving him double speech therapy. In the meantime can you tell me which Omega Fish oil to give him and at what dose? We recently started him on Eskimo Kids Omega 369 which is widely used in London and it has a much higher (EPA 410/DHA 280) than the Nordic Naturals version, it also has Vitamin D and E. Is there something in the Nordic Naturals that helps specifically with speech or should I continue with the Eskimo Kids? Money or brand is not an issue, I just want to know which products are best for speech delayed children. Your help is very much appreciated. With best wishes Rashid
Guest guest
I don't know that i could answer your question, but did want to say that if the product you are using contains Vitamin E and you want to increase the dosage over time you should be very cautious. Too much vitamin E can cause seizures and hair loss and children. I mention this because fish oil is something that your body naturally rids itself of if too much is given. Many parents have added more and more fish oil if their child responded well to it. I'd hate for you not to realize that the Vitamin E could cause problems if you added too much. Best of luck! Guest guest
Hi Rashid! Well it's all relative which one is higher in EPA and DHA as the dosage listed for Eskimo Kids is per one teaspoon -and the dosage on the ProEFA has over the years been for one or two capsules which is 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon....so you'd have to at least double it Here's ProEFA doubled (so about one teaspoon) EPA 270 doubled 540 DHA 180 doubled 360 GLA 66 doubled 132 (since most here know the ingredient list for ProEFA -I kept it simple above -but here is the info on Eskimo Kids -the formula you are using. As you'll see ProEFA is actually higher in EPA and DHA per teaspoon- below I have more comments: Omega-3 Fatty Acids 1200 mg of which EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) 410 mg DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) 280 mg ALA (Alpha Linolenic Acid) 230mg Omega-6 fatty acids from rapeseed oil 510mg of which Linoleic Acid 500mg Omega-9 fatty acids (Oleic acid) 1400mg Vitamin D (cholecalciferol) 5ug (200iu) Vitamin E (natural mixed tocopherols) 6.7 mg other ingredients: Ascorbyl palmitate, lecithin, natural flavouring (from orange, raspberry, lemon and cherry oils) The Eskimo kids looks like a good brand but it's a pure Omega 3 (meaning it only has the DHA and EPA which are both Omega 3s) the ProEFA also contains a small amount of GLA which is Omega 6 from borage seed oil. It doesn't appear to matter if the Omega 6 is from primrose or borage seed oil. What you can do is add a few drops of primrose or borage seed oil into the teaspoon of your Eskimo Kids. A bit more info here from our fb page http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=115029735601 & topic=7401 & start=30 & hash=47fc\ 0d3f07ff167fad927c52c9163bed PS- and Sue think the amount of vitamin E in the Eskimo product 6.7 mg is the normal amount added to stabilize the fish oils and below recommended dosage of vitamin e even for birth to 3 http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/VitaminE.asp And don't forget to join us at Big Tent https://www.bigtent.com/groups/cherab which is a much easier site to find our info on! Hope that helps! =====
Guest guest
Hey thanks for the info.. but I am confused? Which ProEFA liquid do you recommend? The Omega Kids one I use has36 and 9 in it and obviously quite high DHA etc in it. The ProEFA Junior (for 5 years +and my son is not even 3 yet) stats are as follows: EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) 135 mg x 2 = 170 DHA (Docosahexaneoic Acid) 90 mg = 180 So my question is which ProEFA from Nordic Naturals shall I go for, is it available inh liquid as that's what I need and what dosage ie 5ml teaspoons shall I give him? Thank you all so much for your help. > > Hi Rashid! > > Well it's all relative which one is higher in EPA and DHA as the dosage listed for Eskimo Kids is per one teaspoon -and the dosage on the ProEFA has over the years been for one or two capsules which is 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon....so you'd have to at least double it > > Here's ProEFA doubled (so about one teaspoon) > EPA 270 doubled 540 > DHA 180 doubled 360 > GLA 66 doubled 132 > > (since most here know the ingredient list for ProEFA -I kept it simple above -but here is the info on Eskimo Kids -the formula you are using.
