Guest guest
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your Aunt. Praying for your family. From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of kiddietalk Sent: Friday, September 24, 2010 2:07 PM Subject: [ ] Farewell to Aunt Leona Just wanted to let all know that followed my Aunt Leona's journey since her broken hip that it ended yesterday. Speaking of paradigm shifts the Hospice personal also didn't understand how twice NV pulled Aunt Leona out of her death bed (twice prior the funeral home was called to prepare)...but Aunt Leona is in NYC and I live in Florida- one of the aids came to work sick -cough, fever, and gave it to Aunt Leona and then the other aids got sick too. I just find it sad because she was feeling stronger and was starting to walk again. Improved speech at ANY age possible! by

Guest guest
Oh , I'm so very sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of meeting your beautiful aunt and she was a very sweet lady. My grandmother fell the same way and was alone for at least a day or so before someone found her. Thats when we moved her out. She passed a few months later. I'm so very, very sorry. She will be in my thoughts for the next few days. Are you coming to NY?

Guest guest
I want to thank everyone so much for your kind thoughts about my Aunt Leona. It's been hard because while I know at 89 years old she lived a good long life, I also know she wasn't ready to die, she was getting better and they were just talking about getting her more PT for walking...when an aide came to work sick and gave it to her. I don't know if I mentioned it but Aunt Leona is addition to everything else had emphysema and she never smoked a day in her life. But years ago -doctors in the hospital used to smoke and she used to sit in the closed rooms with all the smoking doctors and would breath in all that second hand smoke. She would cough but was too polite to say anything- and back then they didn't know the dangers of smoking so of course didn't know that second hand smoke could be a killer too. So due to her emphysema even in her healthier days a cough and fever wouldn't be good -but this was just too much, and after two weeks of trying to fight it -and not wanting drugs. Just 4 days before she died her and I were on the phone and she was singing the song Joy Joy Joy to me and we both laughed...but this is when she was sick so the laughing made her start coughing. I knew it wasn't good. Ironic that a woman who spent her entire life helping others (from when she was but just a little girl herself in the orphanage as she felt responsible to take care of her little sister and brother -her sister being my mom) and after years of working in the army and through hospice etc. as a nurse and as a PhD in nursing teaching others how to be a nurse... would die due to someone coming to care for her sick when they should have stayed home. I just so appreciate all she taught me in her wise yet funny ways. One of her statements to me was some of what was accepted as fact 50 years ago is laughed at today. To question everything- probably why I dig so much and don't just accept an opinion from anyone no matter who they are without question. Again she used to work with doctors that smoked...in the hospital- really! Thank you so much for all the compassionate thoughts -it doesn't take away the pain of her loss, but it is comforting to know there are so many wonderful people that care about others in the world. I so appreciate that -thank you! =====
Guest guest
, Just saw this and wanted to offer my deepest sympathy for the loss of your aunt. The brief stories you told me about her gave me the distinct impression that the niece did not fall far from the aunt's tree. God rest her soul and may you find peace in knowing she led such a remakable life. Sincerely, Nora Brock > > I want to thank everyone so much for your kind thoughts about my Aunt Leona. Guest guest
Thank you so much- love " the niece did not fall far from the Aunt's tree " I just packed to fly out tomorrow for my Aunt Leona's funeral -and I'm here to try to keep my mind off of the fact she isn't here...it's not easy even though I know she did live a very good long life! I wish she could still be here to be my go to person as she just had so much information on so many areas with her background in medicine. This was one of Aunt Leona's favorite places to visit as she traveled all over the world I'm so lucky I got to go with her there. =====
