Guest guest
Hi everybody, I've been lurking for a while and I would be grateful if someone could clarify something that has been bothering me, concerning CR and bodyweight. First of all, I am not on CR yet, but I am very seriously considering it. The main thing that's holding me back is that I am naturally skinny (just under 6 ft tall by 126 pounds, bodyfat 9.8%, at the age of 40) and the idea of losing even the minimum recommended, i.e. 10% of bodyweight is quite a put-off for me. Here's my question: When on CR, I understand, the body becomes more efficient in the way it uses the calories it receives. In other words, it learns to do more with less. Doesn't it follow, then, that if I slowly adapt to a CR diet, my body would eventually become capable of maintaining my present bodyweight with a smaller number of calories? I remember reading of a study concerning, I think, Indonesian peasants, with two different groups with similar physiques and workload, but significantly different caloric intake - doesn't that fit-in with my little theory above? Thank you very much for your time. Fabio

Fabio, calories are calories. You eat more of them you gain weight, eat less and lose weight. Your may already be on a calorie restricted diet in order to weigh as much as you do or you may be metabolizing and a very high rate = high free radical level. You really need to analyze your diet to see what nutrition you are currently getting. Third world refugees have low body fat and a nutritionally poor diet. Keep in mind this is CRON not just CR. Gotta do ON as well as CR if you want to live long and prosper. papilio
