Guest guest
We purchased an iPad for our 14yo non-verbal son with CP for entertainment purposes. He uses a Dynavox for speech output and it's recommended NOT to confuse communication systems (different layouts, symbols, syntax etc). I put mostly book apps on the iPad and how loves it (in fact can get addicted to it, stims etc). BUT for our kids with access challenges, the iPad is not truly accessible to him independently. For example, the screen is touch sensitive only in the correct spot, if his hands hits another part of the screen it immediately launches the search screen and other annoying glitches that require some adult intervention. And I agree, that the iPad, like all electronic media, should be used in moderation. Both my kids just LOVE it and it portable for long car rides (be sure to bring the cord to re-charge!) There are loads of fun and educational apps for young kids. For a list of special ed-related apps, see the article in the Learn section of my website: http://www.givinggreetings.com/learn.html Randi Mom to handsome Graham (14 yo w/CP for lack of a better diagnosis, hypotonia, AAC & AT user) Founder, www.SayitwithSymbols.com www.facebook.com/SayitwithSymbols Read my blog <http://www.TheAdaptedLife.blogspot.com> www.TheAdaptedLife.blogspot.com
