ADHD update on my son Dakota (funny)

Funny update about my son Dakota who I started on the Nutriiveda. Not sure if

all of you know this but as I reported in the recent update –all of the teens

that I know with ADHD on the nutriiveda were not on it for any reason other than

to lose weight. The one child is 17 years old and even though he is bright (and

good friends with my son Dakota) his ADHD has created academic issues. He's

been on medication for years. His story is probably the most amazing –to go

from that to a " focused straight A student who is now on the road to graduating

a year early from HS "

For those that don't know any history about my son Dakota -briefly he almost

died in childbirth and was in therapy from 3 weeks old overseen by various

neurologists in NY and NJ -but from almost 2 on mainly Dr. Trevor DeSouza in

Mountainside NJ...and one developmental pediatrician who saw him a few times

-Dr. Agin. He was a late talker but it was more of a developmental delay and

his issues were much more severe and life threatening. Dakota had severe head,

neck, and facial injuries and had eating and breathing troubles (would sometimes

stop breathing) and had global delays even up to 2 years old after 2 almost full

years of therapies -mainly in Long Island but some in NJ. Once speech came in

-it came in quickly and with or without speech he LOVED groups of other

children. He was always suspected of ADHD from doctors and teachers but it

wasn't until the 3rd grade that I put him through all the testing because he

came home and said " Mommy my brain is going to fast and I can't stop it "

That's when I took him to the evaluations because it was never due to grades or

social as Dakota always was fine in both areas. When tested by the school he

tested at 99th percentile and at first they said he didn't qualify for

classification because he tested so high -but see he only tests that high one on

one. In a room full of other children, windows, interesting things on the wall,

maybe dust on the floor, pencils to sharpen, and one teacher (typically yelling

" DAKOTA PAY ATTENTION " ) his mind goes all over -and only gets by because he is

so bright he can pay attention a fraction of the time and get good grades.

Fish oil has kept Dakota off all meds as there was a point we were going to go

that route -but if you checked the archives it's always worked out fine with the

oils...but we still call Dakota the " absent minded professor " On my mother's

side there are a number of PhDs and for sure Dakota has the ability to be one

-if that's what he wants.

But here he is now in a HS that is partnered with a college -incredible

opportunities to get college credits and he has some amazing opportunities to

work with professionals in the field he wants to go into which is 3D design.

I had originally put my son Dakota on the nutriiveda because he never eats his

lunch and he's so thin. He's a poor eater – has always been. We figured this

is a win win as it won't take long for him to drink his drink and yet he'll

probably get better nutrition than just about anything we could put in his

lunchbox. But then I started hearing about the dramatic changes in my friend's

ADHD teen children on it and I was like " that's it -Dakota you are going on this

twice a day now " Dakota said " no " Makes no sense because he likes the taste of

it -but he just doesn't like to eat or drink much of anything.

After discussing with Glenn what's going on with the ADHD students (all of whom

Glenn knows) who went from in the one teen's case " poor " student to excellent

student (the other 2 went from B or C students to A students –and all three

changed dramatically in academics within a month or two) we decided whether he

wanted to or not that we were going to put Dakota on the nutriiveda twice a day

–which is what all the other ADHD kids were on –because again they were on the 2

times a day for weight loss. (and yes all lost the pounds they wanted to)

So today it's been a few days…not super consistent as Dakota as you can imagine

isn't super compliant -will say " I'm full I can't drink it now " -but he is

getting the one shake for lunch and a small shake with dinner most nights.

Well in spite of Dakota being so resistant- he's (not kidding) suddenly getting

better grades and all of a sudden Dakota is looking to get As but Dakota insists

that " it has nothing to do with the nutriiveda. " He said " I just decided I want

to pay attention more at school. " And how shocked was I when he asked me almost

right after that " Do you think it's too late for me to be valedictorian of my

class? " We were in the car driving so I called up one of my friends to repeat

what Dakota's saying to me (and I'm laughing saying " and Dakota says it's not

from the nutriiveda but he's just decided to be more focused now " ) and Dakota

says " go ahead take me off the nutriiveda and I will still be focused it has

nothing to do with that at all " (um….no we'll your word for it)

Dakota is sharing so much more with Glenn and me suddenly. I'm finding out

that instead of doing work in school before he would put it off and do other

things and today " I got all my work done in class and I never did that before "

OK is it the nutriiveda? Power of suggestion? For Dakota to be honest I really

don't care and it's possible it's either one. But for SURE for the other 3 ADHD

teens I know since none of them were on it for any reason other than weight loss

(and they all lost the weight they wanted are thrilled with that) and not one of

the parents put two and two together until I pointed it out. These are all

teens who why else would they suddenly change??? I'm sure for them it's from the

nutriiveda- and I'll even include Tanner in this even though he's again not

ADHD- to me this needs to be studied.

So why didn't my friend's think the change had anything to do with the

nutriiveda -they all said the same thing. All parents " just thought their kids

were doing better in school " and were happy about it and didn't wonder why all

of a sudden a teenage student would have a dramatic change in grades and focus.

But if you go back to my original message about my son Tanner (who again is not

ADHD) since he was the first on it we were the first to get a call from his head

of school about his surge in academics and focus etc. Tanner comes home now and

busts me about grades " hey mom I failed my test today " and when I whip around

shocked (only the first time –now I just play along) he starts laughing and says

" just kidding I got a (90 something) "

Like the fish oils this appears to be working on the same area. I don't know

for sure what is working on it –and one of our parents is a research scientist

from China but now in the US who has her autistic son on it –perhaps she can

figure out this puzzle. She's willing to speak to others on the phone -and she

will be starting the Big Tent group for our Chinese speaking parents and

professionals.

This has to be explored –I can provide the names and phone numbers of all the

ADHD teens I mention above. One of the parents is a doctor herself and she also

said " I just thought she was doing better in school and was so happy about that

I didn't think about the nutriiveda –but you're right it is since she's been on

it " I don't have anything about this up on the http://www.pursuitofresearch.org

website but if there is anyone that wants to start an ADHD section for BigTent

let me know and I'll get you the phone numbers of the parents of the teens I

mention above.

And my kids are two extremes in weight- or at least before nutriiveda. Tanner

in the past few months not only has had the surges in speech and academics (as

reported by his school professionals...and his grades!) increase in sense of

humor and facial expressiona -he has now lost FOURTEEN POUNDS(!!!)during a time

he grew an inch and a half- so he's now pretty much on target for where he

should be. I have to say this has been effortless and he loves it. He started

at 5 foot 7 162 pounds and he is now 5 foot 8 and a half 148 pounds -OMG he

looks amazing! And my son Dakota we have on it for health reasons...and maybe

even to gain a few pounds.

Food for thought…maybe that's what we can nickname nutriiveda.
