The Center on Disability Studies at the University of Hawai'i cordially

invites you to submit a proposal to the 26th Annual Pacific Rim

International Conference on Disabilities on April 12th and 13th, 2010 at the

Hawaii Convention Center in Honolulu, Hawai'i In the tradition of Pac Rim,

the 2010 conference will revisit familiar themes and explore new directions

through scholarship, best practice, and international networking. Join us,

and continue this extraordinary journey. We know there is something for you

at what is considered to be the bridge between East and West.

The International Pacific Rim Conference (Pac Rim) on Disabilities has been

widely recognized over the past 25 years as one of the most " diverse

gatherings " in the world. With over 1000 people, the event encourages and

respects voices from " diverse " perspective across numerous areas, including:

voices from persons representing all disability areas; experiences of family

members and supporters across all disability areas; responsiveness to

diverse cultural and language differences; evidence of researchers and

academics studying disability; stories of persons providing powerful

lessons; examples of program providers, natural supports and allies of

persons with disabilities and; action plans to meet human and social needs

in a globalized world.

Each year the conference hews to its traditional areas which have bred much

of the interdisciplinary research and educational advances of the last three

decades. But each year new topics are introduced to foment discussion and

change. The intent is to harness the tremendous synergy as generated by the

intermingling of these diverse perspectives, thus, creating a powerful

program which impacts each individual participant in his or her own unique

way.

We will have several pre and post conference forums, including the

International Forum on the Rights of People with Disabilities, an

international film festival, several Capacity Building Institutes and much

more.

We have a new Conference Design! The 2010 Pacific Rim International

Conference program design has been reorganized into three broad, thematic,

areas: Foundation, the topical areas the Center for Disability Studies has

been or is currently engaged in; Exploration, probing topics that CDS has

not previously addressed but have impact on the security and well-being of

all people with disabilities; and Innovation which seeks to showcase new

theories, concepts, solutions, ideas and applications that can benefit

people with disabilities during this economic downturn.

Please consider submitting a proposal and/or registering to what will be an

outstanding international conference.

To support your attendance Pac Rim 2010 will provide an early acceptance

notice within 2-4 weeks of your submission. Conference rates are very

reasonable and we have chosen the Hilton Hawaiian Village to be our main

conference hotel. We will be providing transportation to and from the hotels

to the conference site. We will also help facilitate room-shares if you are

trying to keep your costs low. We all need to be together!
