Guest guest
Thanks so much ! does not have any other diagnoses. Her early start teachers think she has some sensory and feeding issues. The team at Stanford did not think so but they only spent a few hours with her. We are inclined to agree with the early start teachers. I do not think her sensory or feeding issues are very severe and she is getting help for them in her early start class and at home. Basically the behavioral and developmental people at Stanford told us that we need to focus on what the goal is for - which is to talk. They said they did not see any other issues and any time we used treating other things was taking away from " speech time. " I see where they are coming from but I also think she has some other stuff going on that is not as obvious or severe as her speech issue. Thanks for all the links, I am still working through them. What makes me so hopeful for is that she is very verbal. She " talks " a bunch and loves to imitate. This was not always the case. Even 3 months ago she was mostly silent and never would repeat what you said. At 15 months she could not imitate any physical movement or sound. I think early start and the fish oils have helped her tremendously. Now she jabbers away all day but it is largely unintelligable or she changes how she pronounces words. I mention this so people who have children who are silent know that there is hope. She didn't even point until she was 18 months and now has a wonderful point and poke. Someone was asking about videos. ADORES Signing Time and we credit this for teaching her so many signs. It also had the unexpected benefit of teacher her sight words. She can now read about 30 words when seeing them in any context. Today she was looking at a book and said " up " and sure enough she was pointing to the word up. So we can't say enough good things about the series. I was mistaken about the amount of NV we were giving her. I put each days dosage in a ziploc bag and I didn't think we were doing too bad. Well this evening I put the remaining NV back in the scoop expecting that at least half of it had been used. Nope. We are using 1/3 of a scoop. So frustrating! This may take a few weeks but I am determined to stick with it because I think good things will happen. Thanks again for the great site and group!
