Guest guest
Hi everyone, I know that this board is about apraxia but I know that many issues coincide so I thought that I would post my question on here and see if there are any words of wisdom for me. My 3 year old daughter has global delays as well as motor planning issues. Her receptive language is delayed but sometimes it's difficult to tell how much because sometimes she seems to understand something and then the next second seems not to. I wanted to give an example of something that happened tonight. After she brushed her teeth I said " Let's go to bed and mommy will read you a book " . She ran straight to her bed and I said " , get the book " so she turned around and looked on the floor for her book , grabbed it, and took it in to bed with her. I had to adjust her pjs and in the process she put the book down right next to her as she was lying down. I laid down next to her and said " Where's the book? " She didn't respond. I waited. " , where is the book? Get the book. " Nothing. She grabbed her blanket and started sucking on her fingers and cuddling with her blanket, zoning. I asked her again and waited and waited. Nothing. I KNOW 100% that she knows what a book is. I don't understand why all of a sudden at times she appears to not understand something. Trying to figure out if it's a receptive language thing (but in this case I am sure she knows the word), or a processing thing (for some reason the command isn't being processed?) or if it's a motor planning or sensory thing. She used to zone out A LOT when she was younger and the sensory stuff we did with her really woke her up. Does anyone have any tips or ideas, especially those of you who's kids have processing or motor planning issues? Just trying to figure out how best to help her. Thank you for listening, Nelia
