Soup in the Sukkah Fall brings thoughts of harvest and food and some of our local teens are making sure that no one will be hungry. The South Orange United Synagogue Youth (SOUSY) hosted SOUP IN THE SUKKAH! at Congregation Beth El on October 8, not only as a way to celebrate the holiday of Sukkot the harvest festival, but as a means to provide food for others in need. They made soup bags for local food banks while sharing some warm soup themselves to honor the festival. SOUSY is a peer-led, high school-aged Conservative Jewish Youth Group for Congregations Oheb Shalom and Beth El in South Orange. Chapter meetings include social, cultural, social action, religious, and educational programming. For more information please contact southorangeusy@.... In fact, the group experiment is proving more and more successful as corporations and non-profit agencies plunge into volunteering with half and full " service days. " VMC's new Group Projects volunteer, Hoch Lebow, is ready for the challenge of matching volunteer groups with nonprofit agencies. brings an extensive background in programming and development to the job. A graduate of Barnard College with a BA in Art History, she worked at The Metropolitan Museum of Art as a Product Development Manager before moving on to Caswell-Massey to broaden her experience in catalog production and special promotions. After moving to New Jersey with her husband and raising a family, delved into volunteer work. She concentrated on fundraising and youth programming at her synagogue, Oheb Shalom in South Orange, where she eventually served as a Vice President and continues to serve as a trustee. " Often challenging, the work was both rewarding and enriching, and taught me a great deal about the cooperation and strength found in community, " says Lebow. Looking to expand her horizons, Lebow reached out to VMC in early May where she found a myriad of services for people of all ages. is looking forward to assisting your agency with fall projects. Critical to this team are an organization's board members. " Board composition is a key lever, " said Jeri Eckhart-Queenan, a partner at the Bridgespan Group, a nonprofit advisor to nonprofits and philanthropy. " Having the right people with the right skills helps the organization achieve its strategic goals. " Therefore, the first question that nonprofits should consider as they start to formulate their board recruiting plans is: What are our key strategic priorities, and what new skills or expertise might we need on our board to help us achieve those priorities?
