Guest guest
Hello All, I feel I need to follow up my postings on osteopenia from one month ago. Seeing that everyone is worried that CR may be the cause of boneloss, I wish to report that osteopenia has nothing to do with CR diet in my case. I have been diagnosed, upon further analyses with hypercalcemia (too much calcium in the blood) the cause of which is hyperparathyroidism. The parathyroid gland puts out too much parathyroid hormone and this can cause leaching of calcium from the bones, too much calcium in the blood and many other maladies such as fatigue, depression, nausea etc. This can be caused by too many glands, enlarged glands or tumorous glands (benign or malignant) Thank heaven I didn't just accept the diagnosis of osteopenia, more calcium and fosamax, but convinced my Docter to test further as my diet is picture perfect, as is my exercise routine with weightlifting etc etc for 25 some years. There is only one thing to do for this and it is immediate surgery to remove enlarged glands, or tumorous glands. I am praying there isn't anything murky as we had thyroid radiation as " standard practice " against goiters when we were kids in the 50's- . Criminals! In those days I also had a skin rash and they nuked my hands as well. My vocabulary isn't large enough to express the contempt and anger I feel. Anyway, it ISN'T CR!!!!! Thank you for the extensive on list and off list support and this wonderful forum! Without all the posts about bone disease, diet etc. I wouldn't have known enough to request more extensive testing to find the source of the problems. best wishes to all! MM : is it the opinion of yor doctors that the cause was the radiation? As an aside I have a friend who was radiated for her acne as a teenager and now has skin cancer; it's kept under control with surgery for the lesions that appear on her skin. Another side affect of radiation exposure is leukemia. I just buried a very dear friend 2 weeks ago...56 years old...previous aircraft radar technician in the service (20 years). I've observed many instances of military personnel being exposed at close range (several feet) to operating radar systems that were being worked on by maintenance personnel. Radar folks weren't aware of people out in front and people out in front weren't familiar enough with the equipment to realize that it was transmitting. I remember guys joking about not needing condoms anymore because they had walked in front of an operating radar system. The perceived immortality of youth....
