neurodevelopmental pediatrician recomendation

Hi all,

was wondering if anybody had a good nuerodevelopmental pediatrician to recommend

in the NY/NJ area. I want to get a great overall evaluation for my 2 year old

son. I've taken him to a developmental ped. but really didn't care for him. He

diagnosed my son with delayed speech disorder (have no idea what that is). Just

started him on speech therapy and the SLP feels that he has apraxia. I just want

a good comprehensive evaluation/diagnosis. I know dr. Agin is great but doesn't

take insurance. Just wanted to see if there were any other names out there. I

also have the process starting with the school district in a couple of months

and feel that I should be prepared and armed with the correct diagnosis for my

son so that I can confidently fight for the right therapies.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a very good friend who is a Neuropsychologist in NYC, but he only treats

adults. Last summer when we were looking for someone to do a complete evaluation

of my 8dd--this is the name he gave us. There arent many pediatric

neuropsychologists and he's one of the most respected. Theres also a program at

Columbia Presbyterian that is more of a study, you could try them too.

I spoke to McAllister's office over the summer. He will do a complete 5hr

evaluation---it costs about $2500 and he does not accept insurance. Its up to

you to get reimbursed if your insurance will cover it.

I am also looking for an Nurodevelopmental Ped specialist in NY area as

well!!!!  Do you think your good friend Dr. MacAllister know anyone who will

accept insurance for their evaluations?  It will be a great help and relief of

financial burden for us!!

Dr. McAllister is not my good friend, my friend is a Neuropsychologist who only

treats adults in NYC. But he recommended Dr McAllister for Pediatrics! I tried

Google for Neurodevelopmental Pediatricians in NYC. are they the same as

Developmental Ped's?? I got a few names that I have heard of before-but am not

sure of their good/bad reputation! Gupta, Apetuea and heres a group:

NYU and Columbia have great programs if you want to look at either of those

places.

As far as Insurance...most of the really good Dev Ped's and Neuropsychologists

like Dr. McAllister have stopped taking insurance--this way they can set their

own rates because they are very good doctors and do great evaluations! If you

want one who takes your insurance up front, you'd need to check for a doctor of

whatever type in your plan. What these doctors do is you pay up front and they

will even submit the paperwork for you to be reimbursed by your insurance as out

of network. Be sure you have out of network before making any appointments if

you want to get some of it back. happy holidays

Dr. Agin is in NY and she's great. She doesn't take insurance, but she is well

worth the money. She has been mentioned so many times on this list. She has a

website- nut i can't remember it. Google her Dr. Marilyn Agin, NY
