Guest guest
IIRC, he has had heart problems since the '60s which is what led him to look for a healthy alternative and ultimately to " The Diet Revolution " . While his overall diet scheme is problematic, IMHO the whole health/medical community owes him a debt of gratitude. He was the first one to challenge the prevailing fat-is-the-root-of-all-evil dogma. And his targeting the very damaging sugars and empty carbohydrates was way ahead of its time. He has been vindicated on alot of points. But that's not to recommend his diet over something better like Walford. But hearing this bit of news reminded me of the Marlboro Man dying of lung cancer and the Runners Bible guy having a keel-over while jogging. Not that I'd want to snicker at someone else's misfortune ;-) ----- Original Message ----- From: " Francesca Skelton " <fskelton@...> " main group " <crsociety@...>; " support group " < > Sent: Thursday, April 25, 2002 2:06 PM Subject: [ ] Atkins and the heart > Just heard on the radio: Dr Atkins of the Atkins diet has suffered cardiac > arrest. He has Mr. Rodale of " Prevention Magazine " fame keeled over and died while taping a Dick Cavett show. He advocated lots of complex carbs and little meat or fat. He had just made the claim that his way was the healthiest and would allow him to live to a very old age. They never broadcast the taped show. > been vindicated on alot of points.
