Guest guest
I also would be interested to hear opinions on this. My boy is 24mths, and has not been formally diagnosed as having apraxia. He is totally non verbal, having not even one word in his vocabulary. He also makes very limited sounds, and has little in the way of consnant sounds. I can't help but think he may be on the severe side of things? > > Hi There, > Just wondering if anyone could tell me what the 'symptoms' are between the three levels of apraxia. I am new to the group and I am reading a lot of different posts and people refer to their child as having severe apraxia, mild apraxia, and just wondering if there is a 'definition' that one would use to classify these. > My almost three year old son was diagnosed last week with apraxia, but I must admit I have no idea of where he 'fits' and our next appointment in not until next week. > Thanks for your help. >
Guest guest
The diagnosis would depend upon if you meant in speech, or what part of the body. In this group many think of apraxia as a speech impairment and in many cases it is, but apraxia is a neurological motor planning disorder that can affect any aspect of the human body for " on command " -even blowing your nose for example. It would be a professional in speech or neuromedical (pediatric neurologist or developmental pediatrician) that can diagnosis apraxia and severity level -best case evaluation is a team analysis of the individual. It used to be in Canada for example that an SLP was not able to diagnosis= just a medical doctor but don't know if that changed. In regards to just speech however that's easy http://www.cherab.org/information/speechlanguage/therapymatrix.html Let us know! =====
Guest guest
Hi Barb, Thank you for your response. Our SLP has not actually finished his evaluation yet, hopefully next week. She did say that he appears to be text book apratic. I will speak with her more about it when I see her. I was just being impatient! Thanks again > > > > Hi There, > > Just wondering if anyone could tell me what the 'symptoms' are between the > three levels of apraxia.
