Guest guest
Hi Ethan, my 4 year old son has been doing really well speech-wise, although now we seem to be at a bit of a plateau point. His bowel movements are now formed, but when flushed completely disintegrate...so something is still not right. Has anyone tried the VSL-3 probiotic? Has anyone tried zymogen phosphatocholine (sp?) and seen a jump in speech ? We have re-integrated dairy, but are still on a gluten free diet. Any advice would be really helpful thanks Pam
Guest guest
I use xymogen phosphaline and have had nothing but positive results. It developed complex language in my son very quickly. He was totally apraxic at age 2 at age 4.5 you would never know his dx was apraxia. Guest guest
Pam, Consider seeing a holistic nutritionist to get to the bottom of your child's digestive issues. They are trained in nutrition and its effects on the body, in supplements---and dabble into biomed a little--just enough to give you a flavor--and can do an elimination diet to identify all culprits--soemtimes they are surprising---and only an elimiantion diet can really work to pinpoint the offending foods--no tests are accurate enough and it's too much of a guessing game. Sometimes it turns out people are intolerant to staple foods they would have never EVER suspected becuase the body adapts so well--and it's hard to make the connection. But once removed for a few weeks and reintroduced---the body unlearns its defense mechanisms and it builds up an immediate and real response to that particular food--even if before it just wasn't capable of doing that. It's amazing how this works. Also consider a digestive enzyme---before meals --we use Trienza--some kids need to add it slowly as it can overwhelm the digestive system and cause some cramping. The probiotics can do that too especially if there is yeast die off--but that normally subsides within a few days and you reap the rewards---better digestion, better absorption, enhanced immune system etc. We use several probiotics--prescription based and we alternate them--Klaire Labs Therbiotic Complete; and Pharmex HCL Intensive. Pricey---but well worth it. They've improved her digestion/absorption a lot. We never did have huge problems one way or another--but her blood work was definitely indicative of leaky gut type malabsorptions and stools while well formed did turn to mush when flushed and that's because they are not as digested as they should be--again, typical in leaky gut-- metabolic disorders, possibly bacteria--definitely parasites--the microscopic kind---twice we found different types--both resistant to treatment and known to plague people with weak immune systems--again---leaky gut etc. 80% of the immune system is actually located in the gut. I know it is hard to believe but the intestines stretch out to be the size of a tennis court --so it's no wonder that the food we eat, the water we drink--everything that goes into our bodies is going to affect us--and not just the stomach and intestines--that's just the gateway to the temple. Got to take good care of that gateway All the best, Elena From: Pamela Diamond <pamdiamond@...> Subject: [ ] VSL3-probiotic Date: Thursday, February 4, 2010, 8:57 PM Hi Ethan, my 4 year old son has been doing really well speech-wise, although now we seem to be at a bit of a plateau point. Guest guest
We used xymogen phosphatydylcholine about 2 years ago and saw better expression, vocabulary, and slightly clearer speech, also ,improved gross motor skills. But as I was stating in other posts after about 1 to 2 months our daughter was getting increasingly aggitated with meltdowns, anxiety behavior aand a slew of other undesirable behaviors. It is supposed to be great brain support, and good for you, and did some great things for our daughter, but she has this reaction not only with the phosphatydyl choline but other supplements. we kept reducing her dosage and it didn't stop the behavior. When she was calmed down again--it takes several months if this happens--I tried even 1/4 of a teaspoon of the xymogen phoscholine again on a few occasions but could tell after 1 -2 weeks she was starting to get aggitated again so to my dismay would stop it--unfortunately because it did help her speech ,language and gross motor skills to some extent. Guest guest
My son is on VSL3. We do 1/3 a package 3x a day and has no problem with it. A friend tried it w/ her son and it way too strong for him. His die off was uncontrollable. Just go low and slow, it is a very " strong " probiotic. le Mother Warrior Opening the Window to Recovery *** Please note my email has changed to " danielle@...
