Guest guest
Hello, All! I have a question that I know you can help me with. My son has apraxia and is getting ready to transition to the school system (turns 3 in January). They are agreeing to do a speech eval, but that's all. He is currently in early intervention and his last eval showed scores of -2 standard deviations in social, social communication, cognitive, and adaptive, -1 standard deviation in fine motor, and " average " in gross motor. Now, my question is, isn't it my right to request the psychological evaluation? I know that the law USED to state that, but has it changed? I feel that it would be irresponsible NOT to evaluate him with a psych eval, given his previous scores. I asked them if I had the right to request the psych eval and they said no...something doesn't feel right, but I may be wrong. Please help me out with current laws. Thanks, Brittany
Guest guest
don't know what state you're in, might be weird rules in different states. but, check on your state's board of education website - in IL you can get a copy/download the rules and regs from the ISBE website and then you can check. or, just call the state board of education and just ask someone in the special ed division. believe it or not, the state boards of education are a lot more open than the individual school districts.  sherry and josh From: spinachbreath@... <spinachbreath@...> Subject: [ ] School refusing psych eval...is this legal???
