Date: Sunday, January 17, 2010, 3:46 PM Â Hi there. After being fortunate enough to come across the cherub website, I've decided that I will put my little one onto omega 3 and 6 supplement. He is 24mths old, and has not been formally diagnosed yet, but his speech pathologist does suspect that aqraxia is the problem. I have managed to find somewhere here in Australia where I can buy the Nordic Naturals Pro-Efa Lemon Liquid. I thought it would be easier for me to get this into him than a capsule. I'm not sure how much I should give him though? Is anyone else using this liquid form, and if so what dosage to you use. I beleive with the capsules version, I would use 1-2 per day. Thanks for any help anyone may be offer
Guest guest
1/2 a teaspoon of ProEFA liquid would be about the same as 2 capsules Here's a topic from our http://www.apraxia.org site " fish oils 101 " http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=115029735601 & topic=7401#topic_top And here's an archive on the oil vs the capsule (from 5 years ago as my son Tanner is now 13) About the fish oil. At your child's age we all use the oil even though there are some that let their child chew the capsules. (and yes some actually seek them out can you believe it?!) I don't know if any 2 year olds are swallowing capsules but highly doubt it -sounds dangerous! Most of us that gave our preschool child fish oil for the first few years used the capsules and then pierced them with a pin and squeezed the oil out. That's why we had always given dosage as per capsules. When the oil in the bottle came out -seemed like a great and easier idea but my son noticed the difference in the taste. Fish oil is very unstable with oxygen and the bottle has a very short shelf life of a few months and needs to be refrigerated. (the capsules stay fresh for up to 3 years) However the dosages some parents are using today which are quite high may change the picture and make the oil in the bottle better. Even still if Tanner was still taking the liquid oil we would have had to stay with the capsules since even from the next day after opening the bottle of fish oil Tanner said " ewww " and by the third day didn't want to take his fish oil...can't have that. Here's a page on how to get oils into a child: http://www.cherab.org/information/dietaryeffects/efatips.html#My Thank goodness Tanner learned to consistently take the capsules each day at 8 years old! Now that's the easiest yet! =====
Guest guest
The correct dosage is 1ml a day of the liguid. I got this from Nordic Naturals themselves who sent met the study they did on Autistic Kids (not saying your child is Autistic) and it's a good guide. That's one capsule a day. > > Hi there.
