Hi everyone!

It is over.... we have now experienced our first IEP Meeting.... and darn it....

I am pleasantly surprised. I was expecting the worst, after all, even my EI

Coordinator told me that they would not agree to Indiv. Therapy.

Our Son will be attending the Special Ed PK 4 days per week, 2.5 hours each day.

They agreed to Indiv. " pull out " Speech Therapy 2x per week for 30 minutes each.

They initially started with 15 minutes 2X per week, we asked for 3 30 minute

sessions per week.... We all compromised on 2 30 minute sessions per week....

they did say that they want to meet again to reevaluate this in 8 weeks.

PT, OT Services and the " Summer Program " be included as well.

They were very open to the concept of 1:1 Therapy with Apraxia... the

Supervisor who was there also had Speech experience... she was very open to

looking at all of the articles that we presented. The Matrix from the ASHA was

very useful! This Supervisor asked me if I have visited the apraxiakids.org and

CHERAB sites..... she seemed to know about all of our info sites, and said that

she is well versed on Apraxia.

They permitted us to " tweak " some of the Goals, so that they would be more

appropriate for our Son... The Meeting was almost 4 hours long... and during

this time, a huge snow storm started. They stayed to the end.

The meeting was held in our home... because it was their " Community IEP Day " ....

when they left, there was so much snow.... I felt bad that they had to drive.

The IEP is not yet signed.... they wanted to change it... then they will send it

to me so that I can sign it. They offered to e-mail me a copy before they send

it... and said that I can call with any questions.

One more thing, they send me a " Partial Draft " of the IEP prior to our

meeting.... it helped to review and prepare for our responses. Even with this,

the meeting still took 4 hours.

Thanks everyone, for all of your advice. I was well prepared... and feel that

things went well.
