Help with homework issue

I'm going to need to call a review meeting for my 10y daughter and could use a

little advice. We are struggling with homework. She has changed buildings this

year and is with a whole new crew of teachers who are not familiar with her.

She is extremely frustrated with homework and it is effecting our entire family.

I have met with teacher twice to ask to have it scaled WAY back, which they did

for a few days. Last night she had 3 pages of math that she had no clue how to

do, a science crossword puzzle that she know 7 out of 15 and was very frustrated

that she couldn't spell the words or finish the puzzle. She had to study 5

pages of science notes for a test today. She also has a current event each

week, she was very interested in the rescue of the miners, but we couldn't find

an article that was manageable for her to read so she left crying that she

wanted to talk about it but couldn't fill in the sheet to do it at school. She

also has to read 15 minutes a night (which is fine, we do that anyway.)

So my question is, do any of you with older kids have homework accommodations?

I need some good wording if you have been through this already. I wouldn't mind

for example, doing a few review type math problems each night, but I can't teach

her new material...I wouldn't mind her reviewing a few vocab/science/social

studies terms each night, but not pages and pages of cramming. I'm thinking

current event is crazy to try and squeeze in...maybe once a month. Please share

your thoughts.

Barbara
