Guest guest
Hi Do you think this is some form of detox? Does your son still have an appetite? You can go to this group GFCFKids  and they will probably have an answer for you! AJ From: elizabeth7899 <elizabeth7899@...> Subject: [ ] 25 month old who continues to throw up Date: Thursday, February 18, 2010, 9:00 PM  My son, has been dx with oculamotor apraxia and has delays in all development area. He started throwing up at the end of Decemeber and still continues to this day, including tonight. I started him on a GFCF diet with probiotics, multi-vitamin, and NN Omega 3-6-9 January 7th. Although the supplements and diet have made huge improvements, he still continues to throw up every other week. I started him on NV Wednesday, February 17th. I did stop the multi-vitamin when I started NV. He has had an ultrasound that showed only normal results and the ped doctor gave me ZANTAC to give to him last week. My son made it past the 10th day in rotation, which would have been the normal day that he thows up. I decided not to give him Zantac because he was doing so well, developmentally and physically. We mad it all the way to day 15 in rotation with no throwing up. Tonight, day 16, he threw up, not as bad as previous times. I want to continue NV and give it a chance to do it's nurishment on my son. Any suggestions on what could be causing the problem? Should I continue NV? (I really want to, if it is safe for my condition.)
Guest guest
Hi and welcome! I looked up the symptoms and was your child ever checked for Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome? " Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome (CVS) consists of recurrent, stereotypic episodes of incapacitating nausea and vomiting lasting hours to days and separated by symptom-free intervals, which typically last weeks or months " http://www.biomedcentral.com/1741-7015/3/20 May also want to read http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/cvs There are a number of message boards and doctors recommended on them for this one condition but don't know if this is what is going on. The one thing that looks promising is that it appears CVS if that is what it is is a metabolic disorder and the nutriiveda supports the metabolic system -but think we are crossing uncharted territory as this has never come up here before. From what I read if it is CVS it is rare. I did read the following doctor specializes in CVS- he's all over many blogs on this condition (don't know him in any way -but can't hurt to call -he did publish http://www.biomedcentral.com/1741-7015/3/20 ) Dr. J. Feldman, MD 8635 West 3rd Street Los Angeles, CA 90048-6106 (310) 652-8031 Being that your son was only on the nutriiveda for one day (yesterday) and since this has been going on since the end of December I personally -as you stated- think it'll help with putting nutrients back into the body! I'm sure you shared with his doctor- what did he or she say? I wish I had more to say -perhaps someone else has more? Best of luck! =====
Guest guest
Hi and , As an SLP who specializes in working with kids that are picky (<30 foods) or problem (<20 foods) eaters, I would HIGHLY recommend an appt w/a GI doctor, if you have not yet had one. It's important to see if your son's vomiting is medical, sensory, behavioral, or a combo. Often eating difficulties start as a medical issue with sensory issues but progress quickly to having behavioral components. Your son's difficulties may or may not be an eating difficulty---that is why you need to have the medical issues evaluated by a GI doctor. I can't dx CVS but I do know of another SLP whose son has CVS. I don't remember all the details-look at this info: http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/cvs/index.htm Cheri Fraker, whose son has CVS (controlled), is an SLP who ironically works with kids who are picky eaters. (as I do) She has some helpful info on her blog--- www.cheriandlaura.blogspot.com There is a GI doc who diagnosed Cheri's son--- Mark Fishbein MD Associate Professor of Pediatrics Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition Attending Physician, Children's Memorial Hospital 1.800.KIDS DOC (1.800.543.7362) Let us know what you discover. Guest guest
Hi, Has your son had been tested for food allergies? My NT son had the same symptoms at about the same age and it turned out to be allergies to soy, eggs as well as about 25 other foods. We pulled these foods out of his diet, and he was fine (although the epi-pen is always near). Guest guest
Good advice Barb -the doctor's name I provided is also a GI doc -and apparently knowledgeable about CVS. From what I read many doctors don't know what it is (not that I would have either if not for Google!) It's good because now you and I both provided names of doctors that have knowledge in CVS and they'll be able to provide perhaps names of GI doctors near where lives if she needs one. I do not suspect it is food allergies -they wouldn't come and go like clockwork every other week since late December! Same for just about anything else I found that is obvious anyway. Actually however now that I'm reading her message again I suspect the doctor she has already suspects it or else why would Zantac which is one of the medications used in CVS to " help calm the stomach by lowering the amount of acid it makes be prescribed? " http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/cvs/#treatment Here's just one of the reasons I provided info for Dr. Feldman (from a blog from NORD) " Dr. Feldman's info: J. Feldman, M.D. telephone: (310)652-8031 He does not take insurance. But, he does make phone appointments and it might be possible that you would not need to travel to be treated by him. He also knows of reputable doctors throughout the country who are knowledgeable about CVS, and might be near you. " http://www.inspire.com/groups/rare-disease/discussion/cyclical-vomiting-syndrome And more and more post about this one doctor on this blog -and check other ones for CVS- he's the guy (and the one on that paper I just posted -and again yes he is a GI doc) Apparently he's been a key doctor for many with CVS His name is almost linked to CVS due to his patients and I guess his research -you can't pay for that type of recommendation. =====
Guest guest
There is a new concept in allergy relief. A 2 second laser point set to frequency of allergy item removes physical distress to item. This is how understand it. Guest guest
Not meaning to hijack, but my 35 mo old son is an extremely picky eater. When you say under 20 items, do you count the ingredients or the item? i.e. an omelet only made a certain way is one food item, or you count the onion, egg and cheese as three although they are not consumed any other times. I'm suspecting I have a problem eater.
Guest guest
Thank you so much for responding. This is great information to take to my doctor!! I am going to start him on the zantac, keep him on nutriiveda and give it a chance to work! My son is actually a very good eater. He will eat anything that I put on his plate! Normal foods that I feed him are...carrots, green beans, corn, peas, baked chicken, baked pork chop, turkey burgers, fish sticks, chicken fingers, soy yogurt and pudding, waffles, cereals, and all kinds of fruit. I can not find one common denominator in all his incidents of throwing up. We have an appt in March to see a DAN! doctor for the first time, that will run all of food allergey panels and other test. Thank you so much for responding! Guest guest
I should also mention that when I say x # of foods, I am looking at how many a child has in each of 3 categories: proteins, veggies/fruits, carbs IF there are not 10 in each one, there MAY be an eating concern. BUT I look at the whole child and family, NOT just the food. Guest guest
Hi My son was mis diagnosed with congenital ocular motor apraxia. He had head jerks which were mistaken for head thrusts. He also had cyclical vomiting. It turned out he had Tourette's caused by a post streptococcal infection. A course of penicillin quickly cured the vomiting and the head thrusts which which were in fact huge tics. Unfortunately it took ages (10 years old ) to get diagnosed because he had global developmental delay. Everyone who saw him said, " oh well it's just part of his undiagnosed syndrome.... " In the two years following diagnosis his speech came along in leaps and bounds. He still has a long way to go but the strep didn't help. My son was born 2 months premature and needed nothing but a feeding tube. He did have heart apnea and was given... excuse my spelling, " anapholan " . Thanks so much for letting me know! Guest guest
both Barbara SLP and I posted names of GI doctors (gastroenterologist) who diagnose CVS. The doctor I posted -Dr. Feldman, has published papers in this area and apparently is one of the leading doctors for this condition. Vomiting every other week for months -that's not a sign of any food allergies I know of! (unless every other week you feed him exactly the same food he's allergic to???) Here's just one message board that talks about Dr. Feldman Dr. Feldman's info: J. Guest guest
Hi Strep infection is a bacterial throat infection that circulates in the winter time. Most children will get over it in a few days and suffer no ill effects. But in rare cases some children have an auto immune reaction post infection. It is often referred to as PANDAS. http://intramural.nimh.nih.gov/pdn/web.htm It's not a well recognised condition and we had to see a neurologist for diagnosis. Obviously it's not the only cause of vomiting, it's just that my son was vomiting regularly with it. Judith
