Update on whey protein

My 4 1/2 yr old son was diagnosed with Apraxia at 2 1/2. This past October,

right after his 4th birthday, we started the fish oils (we waited as I have a

fish allergy, and we had Austin tested to make sure he didn't before we

started). He made great strides, so much so that we had to do a new evaluation

in December (his last one was in June). In June he had a moderate language

delay and a severe articulation delay. In December, he was at age-appropriate

level for language, and a moderate articulation delay. After reading the

testimonials of the NV, we decided to try Austin on just basic whey protein

isolate. We decided to try whey protein until he tracks out (he's on a

year-round pre-k calendar), so that when we did the NV it was the only thing

going on...kinda be sure it was that and nothing else attributable. I am also

just the kind of Type-A personality that likes to know exactly what part of

something works, and since the whey protein is just branch-chain amino acids, it

couldn't hurt to try. Anyway, Austin is surging on the whey protein!!! We

started this weekend, he's getting 8g/day, his Flintstone vitamin, and his fish

oils. Austin looked at me last night, with " The Very Hungry Catepillar " book,

and said " Mommy I want to read catepiwar book. " He replaces L's with W's still,

but it was as clear as a bell. Austin hasn't ever showed interest in the book

before, and had never attempted such a big word, much less in a sentence! His

pre-k teacher reported that he was " super talkative " yesterday at class.

He even sat down this weekend and wrote his name on all eight valentine cards

for his class in one sitting!!! He's been a little louder, but I'm good with

that too! And, with the wierd weather, Austin had missed 4 days of classes, and

he's receiving 1 speech session less per week (from 4 to 3) as he's normal

private SLP is on maternity leave, and his temp could only do 1 day for the

first month.

I am by no means trying to convince others to go this route, just thought I

would share since the NV Drs. are looking at researching it. I also thought it

was interesting that there were only 2 real differences between the Flintstone

complete and vitamins in the NV...Flintstone has biotin, NV didn't; and NV had

potassium, Flintstone didn't.

We still plan on trying the NV over track-out (begins the last week of March),

and I will update if anything changes!

..
