Subject: Guardianship specifics

From: Maureen Kerne <mauker@...>

To all can you help us get word out regarding this free parent workshop if

you have not already done so. Ray Falcone will be taking about the items

listed below. It is well beyond the " typical " guardianship workshop and I

urge you to try and have your parents attend. It is never too early to start

thinking about and planning for guardianship. Much appreciated.

" This session will explore the legal and ethical issues concerning

guardianship, alternatives to guardianship, and decision making for

individuals with intellectual disabilities. Topics to be covered include:

the rationale for, and historical and current use, of guardianship (plenary

and limited); the advantages and disadvantages of guardianship; and the

advantages and disadvantages of such alternatives as durable powers of

attorney, health care proxies, health care powers of attorney, and less

formal methods of intervention designed to support, rather than substitute

for, the decision-making capacity of individuals with intellectual

disabilities. "

" In the quiet of this day may you know the greatness of your spirit and may

your hopes fly on the wings of possbility "

Present a Free Workshop for

Parents/Guardians

" GUARDIANSHIP: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW "

When: Thursday, February 25, 2010 7:00pm to 9:00pm

Where: River Dell High School Auditorium, 55 Pyle Street, Oradell NJ 07649

Speakers: Ray Falcone, Esquire, Falcone & Singer, P.C.

Guardianship is an important topic that parents/guardians need to consider

well before your son or

daughter turns 18. If your son or daughter is not able to make medical

decisions, protect their own

interests, and handle living arrangements, you MUST attend this workshop. It

is never too early too

early to start making plans.

Did you know that when your son or daughter turns 18, they are emancipated

as a matter of law,

regardless of whether or not they can care for themselves? Did you know that

there are different types

of guardianship?

The presentation will cover four key areas of importance to parents and

guardians whose son or

daughter has a disability.

1. What is guardianship? What are the different types of guardianship?

2. When is a guardianship appropriate?

3. How does one become a guardian?

4. What are the alternatives to guardianship?

Please join us to hear about this important topic by completing the form

below and emailing or
