Guest guest
As most of you know Tanner's now in middle school -8th grade. Prior to NV when Tanner had homework -'I' had homework but since NV not only is he working independently, but if I even ask him if he needs helps he says " I can do it myself " While with NV (1 year) and now NV Accell (inconsistent 2 weeks?) it's hard to say I see a surge from day to day as how much better can you do than awesome?!!! I do believe that by continuing to give Tanner NV now it's 1 year that whatever good it has done in dramatic surges to start are continuing to grow. For those that have followed what I've posted so far of Tanner's work -there is documentation in the archives at least. The following is from last night's homework -he was finishing up a science project -he chose to do it on speed bumps (nothing I would have chosen but now that it's done it was interesting what he learned) The only two questions Tanner asked me as he worked on his computer near me was " Mom how do you spell literally? " and " were we on Palm Beach Road? " (it was Palm City Road) Notice the words used -again this was his own words -written by himself with zero help other than asking me the 2 questions above for the first project. Abstract Observations show that not many cars or trucks slow down at a speed bump, so I wanted to see how may actually slowed down for it. First we drove to " Palm City Road " in Stuart. Second I stood right by the speed bump (not literally) watching the cars and trucks go over it, seeing how fast they go. Third, I collected the data from standing out there for an hour or two. Finally I counted the data, to see which one would slow down more a car or a truck. My data shows me that cars go slower then trucks. I was quite surprised because since trucks have more a suspension I guessed that trucks would go slower then cars. Since I was standing out there with a pencil and a notepad, I saw that most of the people would slow down if they were speeding. Maybe if I hid, the cars that slowed down would have not slowed down. And the next is because he needs to write up a persuasive paper for writing on something with two sides that can be used in a debate on the topic. The following is his outline -again I did not write one word of this -he did it alone last night. On this one he didn't ask me anything. Thesis: Okeechobee should not be dumping their water in the St. Lucie River. I. Why it's bad? A. Making the water very dirty. B. Destroying the River. C. Killing wild life. II. Why they do it? A. If it rains the sea level rises. B. May cause flooding. C. That's where we get our water from. III. How can we help? A. Clean the waters. B. Help raise awareness. C. Try to make them dump the water some where else. Perhaps for some of you with 8th graders this wouldn't be a huge deal =but for where Tanner was prior (pulling teeth for each word, each sentence -even with my help!!) This is just OMG mind blowing! And yes this is a surge area up here http://pursuitofresearch.org/pursuit.html Does Tanner still have his sensory quirks however?!! YES -but at least now he's aware they are what most would consider silly. This morning when he came out of the shower I had the drier on and he had his towel wrapped around him and he laid his body and face on the drier -he LOVES the heat and vibration of the drier -used to like to curl up and sleep on the floor by the drier when he was a baby. So I passed him and said " Oh look Tanner still loves the drier! " and he turned his head and looked at me and smiled. Then finished getting ready for school. =====
Guest guest
PS to what I just wrote -Tanner's on his way back from his basketball game with Glenn and I asked Tanner if he wanted all of us to go to this one sports restaurant tonight that benefits his school and he said " I can't tonight. I have so much homework I can't even begin to think about doing anything else " Once again -mature answer based on what needs to be done vs what he would prefer to do. Awesome! =====
Guest guest
, That is so great about Tanner! Mason has now been on NV for almost 2 weeks and 4 days.. We are still seeing so many positive changes. We were in the car yesterday and his sister decided to aggravate him by trying to take his blanket. He told her " No Morga() me blanka(Blanket). Huge for him! Then she told him she was going to give me a hug. He said " No Morga()me ma(mama). He didn't get the full mama because of the other words before it but he said both of these sentences seconds apart. He has not said 4 words together EVER until NV. Also, today at his prek school, his teacher told me he was so focused. More than she has ever seen. He no longer lets other children take things away from him. He stands up for himself. He is participating doing the hand motions to songs that he couldn't do before. We are so thrilled with all the progress he is making.
