Guest guest
Here is an archived message as posted on fb...only thing I want to add as we've spoken so much in this group about the whey isolate protein is that most is around 96 percent protein -but the whey isolate protein in the nutriiveda which is 100% natural (just like everything else in the product) and of the highest quality- the whey part is about 100% protein with only trace amounts of anything else- which is hard to find anywhere and why it's gluten casein free (as well as fat and sodium free) I was told this is because when they were searching for which whey isolate protein to use " price was not considered " So it is the BEST!!! (which is awesome for all of us and our kids) (clip from message posted to our private Cherab group) Product has only been out since around October -ayurvedic, metabolic weight management health product -no known side effects, gluten, casein, lactose, fat, sodium, free, 100 percent natural, no drug interactions, developed and endorsed by world renowned medical doctors Deepak Chopra MD and Simon MD...was not developed for children but by mistake I found it created a surge in my son Tanner who is 13 (reported by his school noticed by all professionals) I shared with Robin for her 25 year old daughter Mel who was misdiagnosed all her life as mentally retarded and autistic -like my son Tanner, Mel's background is well documented by many professionals -please read blog to see remarkable surges that started from day one. Three taken off the nutriiveda for various reasons that had been surging regressed in a day or two. The product is full meal and vitamin replacement but isn't just for weight loss -it also helps those kids who don't eat enough or well. Nourishes the body with 10 grams of isolate protein which is the most easily digestible per serving. All vitamins and minerals and essential amino acids are in each serving too -some interesting studies just published on this which may explain some of what we are seeing? (here's one http://www.sflorg.com/comm_center/medical/p974_99.html ) Can be made into a shake mixed with water or juice or any type of milk (soy, almond etc.) Can also be mixed into food such as yogurt, pudding, peanut butter, (even heard ice cream) Can also be sprinkled on food like cereal, oatmeal or pancakes etc. Depends what child (or adult likes. Price 40 dollars per canister -30 scoops per canister in either chocolate or vanilla. Dosage used so far OK'd by child's doctors (so far all doctors both traditional medical and alternative as well as nutritionist approved by all and most MDs have said " don't know if it will help with speech but can't hurt and should add some good nutrition " ) Birth to three - one scoop a day (can be split into half scoop twice a day) Four to Eight -two scoops a day (can be split into 1 scoop twice a day) Nine and up to adult -can take up to four scoops a day -recommended to split 2 scoops 2x a day. If you need to lose weight you will on this and quickly -if you don't you won't (those that needed to gain weight gained) works with the body. reports from adults using it for weight loss -tons of energy, focus, no more cravings. For adults too appear to support metabolic system- metabolism appears to rejuvenate. (being used by some of our parents, grandparents, and professionals as well) Used 2x a day comes out to around $2.70 for full meal and vitamin replacement. Again does not have to be for weight loss and can be served with food. (won't be able to eat as much food however) Most parents are reporting surges within a week. Here are some of the reports so far from various kids: For apraxia and autism: More babble/or even all of a sudden talking in full or fuller sentences More focus (biggie) Seems to be more aware of what's around -more interested in what's around For autism -more eye contact, pointing,, following gaze and interest of others and what's around For ADHD -I know of 3 teens now that went from poor to B C students (one on medication and bounced from school to school) who went to STRAIGHT A STUDENTS -that so much needs to be looked into!!!! My son Tanner isn't ADHD -but his school also called me to report a surge -his grades have gone up Seizures - Mel who almost died of seizures- no seizure activity at all, no headaches, since being on the nutriiveda -meds have been lowered once and are about to be lowered again. This is within 6 weeks. My son Tanner's fish oil dosage has been cut in half and for the first time no regression -he continues to surge. Negative so far hyper...Sowmya's son and he also increased in speech (but this was also when the teacher reported more focused in school - but at home he was hyper) Sowmya took him off for just a few days and he noticeably regressed in speech. She put him back on and now she says that even though it may look like hyper - it's not so much hyper as he's more interested in everything around him. Teacher asks Sowmya what she's doing differently with her son -notices improvement. When Sowmya says " today? " She says " no past 4 days " while her son was on the nutriiveda. Barbara CCC SLP is going to stat interviewing parents and the professionals that work with the kids on the nutriiveda to see if we can get information that's professional anecdotal instead of just from us the parents. One of the big questions I'm getting is for autism/biomedical and all the other supplements etc. So far out of those I've spoken to that do biomedical they talked with their child's doctor and tried pulling their children off everything but fish oil and nutriiveda for a week. Most surges are within that first week anyway so good to see what's working. We are starting groups at BigTent Barbara CCC SLP is meeting up with some neuroMDs in her area to discuss and will be reporting what she's already seeing in her clients (very exciting!!) She will be starting a section at Big Tent to answer questions from parents and professionals Sowmya has volunteered to help answer questions about ayurveda Jolie Abreu and Robin Ketchum will be starting a section to keep everyone up to date with Mel's updates and where you can ask questions and keep track Dawen Wong offered to start a section at Big Tent for those that speak Chinese and to share what she's seeing in her autistic son on the nutriiveda If anyone wants to start a section on anything (not just nutriiveda since we have a few that want to start sections on this already) just email me lisa@... or lewis@... Product label chocolate http://www.up0.net/content/666799/Choco_NutritionFacts.pdf Product label vanilla http://www.up0.net/content/666799/Vanilla_NutritionFacts.pdf Ayurvedic ingredients Gymnema (Gymnema sylvestre)Gymnema (Gymnema sylvestre) Often called the " sugar destroyer, " Gymnema has been used by Ayurvedic healers to help support healthy blood sugar levels for thousands of years. In addition, Gymnema supports a healthy metabolism and acts as a catalyst for the weight management activity of Garcinia. Guggul Guggul (Commiphora mukul) Known as the " fat killer " in Ayurvedic medicine, Guggul is a powerful resin extract that comes from the small, thorny mukul myrrh tree. It is known in Ayurveda for its ability to help rid the body of unwanted fat, increase cellular fire, and support healthy cholesterol levels and liver function. turmeric Turmeric (Curcuma longa) Turmeric root, one of the most widely studied botanicals today, is often combined with Amalaki because of the duo’s potency and power. Turmeric works to boost cardiovascular health by purifying the blood, regulating blood sugar levels, supporting healthy insulin levels, and promoting a healthy inflammatory response in the body. GreenTea Green Tea (Camellia sinensis) A powerful antioxidant, green tea contains high concentrated levels of EGCG that neutralize toxic free radicals within the body. It also works to protect the DNA, regulate blood sugar levels, increase thermogenesis, and boost energy. amalaki Amalaki (Emblica officinalis) Known as the " great rejuvenator, " Amalaki is revered for over 5,000 years in Ayurveda for its rejuvenating properties. This superfood promotes energy and vitality, supports immune function, promotes the digestive system, stabilizes blood sugar levels, and has an overall rejuvenating effect on the body required during weight loss. haritaki Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) The date-like Haritaki fruit serves as a gentle and effective detoxifying agent for the body. Through its astringent taste, the Haritaki stimulates the metabolic fire of the cells and promotes the body's ability to burn fat. cinnamon Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) Used in the Vanilla version of NutriiVeda Cinnamon has a long history both as a spice and as a medicine. Cinnamon aids with problems in the digestive system and is high in antioxidants. Seasoning a high carb food with cinnamon can help lessen its impact on your blood sugar levels. Cinnamon slows the rate at which the stomach empties after meals, reducing the rise in blood sugar after eating. Cayenne Cayenne (Capsicum annuum) Used in the Chocolate version of NutriiVeda Many herbalists believe that cayenne acts as a catalyst and increases the effectiveness of other herbs when used with them. Cayenne is a medicinal and nutritional herb. Medicinally it aids in elimination and assimilation and promotes the entire digestion system. Nutritionally it is a very high source of Vitamins A and C, has the complete B complexes, and is very rich in organic calcium and potassium. Thanks! PS even though my neighbor Laurie says I'm not allowed to say this and that nobody cares about anything under a size 8..I effortlessly went from a size 4 to a size 2 in about 2 months -and without this no matter how hard I tried and worked out and watched what I ate -it's hard to lose those last few pounds. http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=115029735601 & topic=13047 =====
Guest guest
Sounds great and worth a try. Where can I buy this product in the UK or do I need to get it from the USA? How much do I prepare for my child who doesn't appear autistic or apraxic but not talking? Can I do say half a sachet a day? Can I give him a dose with his morning breakfast cereal? Guest guest
I have not really followed much of the conversation about the nutriiveda. when it first appeared on the line, I did a quick search on it, and found that the whey protein isolate was in it - decided immediately it was not going to be for Josh. Josh has allergies to MSG and, if you check the gazillions of names for MSG or ingredients of products that have/create/etc. MSG (which is a naturally occurring substance, and is naturally produced by different processes in other substances) - whey protein isolate often has/is a name for naturally produced MSG. So if any of the kiddoes trying the nutriiveda protocol are having some problems, and also have allergies to MSG, you might want to consider that as the culprit.  MSG, as I said and as many of you probably know, does go by, or is in, a gazillion other names and substances. It's hard having a kid with an MSG allergy (he has respiratory reactions), but there ya go. It's a shame since, if the anecdotal info is correct, Josh's speech, focus, and seizures (he was diagnosed in October with epilepsy) might benefit from it.  Sherry and Josh From: southeastdonkey <hrashid@...> Subject: [ ] Re: Nuttriiveda - what is it? Guest guest
Sherry I know you have an attorney background so you must be investigative -so please don't stop digging on this one. Nutriiveda is not your typical whey protein isolate in that the whey protein isolate in it is almost 100 percent whey protein / gluten and casein free...and the whey protein isolate as well as the entire product is 100 percent natural -most whey isolates are not made in a 100 percent natural way. In addition to being gluten and casein free it's also listed as fat and sodium free -wouldn't MSG be a sodium? http://www.up0.net/content/666799/Choco_NutritionFacts.pdf And if what you were talking about is the essential amino acid glutamic acid which is one of the essential amino acids that make up the protein...well if you want to avoid that then you'll also be avoiding meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and dairy products as well as protein-rich plant foods...I don't think so!!! And if that is what you mean -then you really really really want to look at the newest research that links a diet rich in essential amino acids to neuro repair http://www.sflorg.com/comm_center/medical/p974_99.html If you didn't mean that then there are all different types of whey -including whey concentrate -I only found one reference to what you are talking about and they only say " whey powder " which is a bit broad as they are not all the same in any sense. Guest guest
Hi -  I think we're talking apples and oranges, so to speak. I'm not knocking nutriiveda, so please don't get me wrong on that. I'm just pointing out that even though whey protein isolate is pure and natural, even pure and natural ingredients can create MSG in the processing. Afterall, MSG itself is a natural substance (it originally was created from a process involving sea kelp if I remember correctly). I'm just pointing out that even stuff that is pure and natural may have consequences for some folks, and I'm just suggesting that people make sure of ingredients before using it - whether for themselves or their kiddoes. I have copied here some info on MSG by other names, other substances containing MSG, etc. - it's from a site called truthinlabeling.com.  Autolyzed, hydrolyzed, glutamate, glutamic acid, hydrolyzed, autolyzed HIDDEN SOURCES OF PROCESSED FREE GLUTAMIC ACID (MSG) NAMES OF INGREDIENTS THAT CONTAIN ENOUGH MSG TO SERVE AS COMMON MSG-REACTION TRIGGERS The MSG-reaction is a reaction to free glutamic acid that occurs in food as a consequence of manufacture. MSG-sensitive people do not react to protein (which contains bound glutamic acid) or any of the minute amounts of free glutamic acid that might be found in unadulterated, unfermented, unprocessed, food.  These ALWAYS contain MSG Glutamate (E 620) Glutamic acid (E 620) Monosodium glutamate (E 621) Monopotassium glutamate (E 622) Calcium glutamate (E 623) Monoammonium glutamate (E 624) Magnesium glutamate (E 625) Natrium glutamate (natrium is Latin/German for sodium) Gelatin Calcium caseinate Sodium caseinate Textured protein anything " hydrolyzed " any " hydrolyzed ... protein " Yeast nutrient Yeast extract Yeast food Autolyzed yeast Vetsin Ajinomoto ,  These OFTEN contain MSG or create MSG during processing Carrageenan Maltodextrin Malt extract Natural pork flavoring Citric acid Malt flavoring Bouillon and Broth Natural chicken flavoring Soy protein isolate Natural beef flavoring Ultra-pasteurized Soy sauce Stock Barley malt Soy sauce extract Whey protein concentrate Pectin Soy protein Whey protein Protease Soy protein concentrate Whey protein isolate Protease enzymes Anything protein fortified Flavors(s) & Flavoring(s) Anything enzyme modified Anything fermented Natural flavor(s) & flavoring(s) Enzymes anything Seasonings (the word " seasonings " ) These ingredients work synergistically with MSG to enhance flavor (If they are present for flavoring purposes, so is MSG) Disodium 5’-guanylate (E 627) Disodium 5’-inosinate (E 631) Disodium 5'-ribonucleotides (E 635)   In ADDITION... The not so new game is to label hydrolyzed proteins as pea protein, whey protein, corn protein, etc. If a pea, for example, were whole, it would be identified as a pea. Calling an ingredient pea protein indicates that the pea has been hydrolyzed, at least in part, and that processed free glutamic acid (MSG) is present. Relatively new to the list are wheat protein and soy protein. Disodium guanylate and disodium inosinate are expensive food additives that work   From: kiddietalk <kiddietalk@...> Subject: [ ] Re: Nuttriiveda - what is it? Guest guest
I have looked at one of your references - msgtruth - before for info and looked again after reading your post below. As I wrote in my first response where I included the info from the source I had, all I'm saying is that people need to read, research, and be careful particularly if you've got a kiddo with allergies to different substances. There is a sentence in msgtruth that goes along with what I wrote before - even natural substances can cause problems for some people - this was in msgtruth:  " Do not trust something simply because it is in a health food store and the label states it is natural or even organic. The US allows " natural flavors " to include protein hydrolysates which can contain up to 20% MSG by weight. A distinction without a difference. "  Granted, that sentence refers to a different substance as an example, but reading the whole article in msgtruth is a good idea. It's amazing (and depending on your point of view, sneaky) how MSG in particular is included in lots of different things (medicines, shampoos, not just food) and, if not careful, can cause problems for those with reactions. So, again, all I'm saying is for folks to be careful.  Sherry and Josh From: kiddietalk <kiddietalk@...> Subject: [ ] Re: Nuttriiveda - what is it? Guest guest
here's another site listing whey protein isolate as potentially containing MSG: http://shop.sixwise.com/index.asp?PageAction=Custom & ID=175   the article there (which is pretty interesting) references the msgtruth.com in your email as well as the truthinlabeling I referenced in mine. (I think I put ..com after it - nope - it's truthinlabeling.org - sorry)  Sherry and Josh    From: kiddietalk <kiddietalk@...> Subject: [ ] Re: Nuttriiveda - what is it? Guest guest
I just saw the thing about dropping your phone off the boat! LOL!  Things have been weird here but are finally calming down. Since the divorce, I have taken control of my finances and turned things completely around from when I was married (amazing how that happens to so many women!). I bought my first house and Josh and I moved to a new city, still in IL, but different school dist. The one we were in - let's just say if people within the school dist would have been brave, we would have had an incredible lawsuit - people were telling me about what they termed verbal and physical abuse toward Josh (and he did come home with some black and blue marks that no one ever seemed to explain) - and he was regressing in everything. Seems there was one aide in particular who was the source but I could never get anyone to agree to come forward via affidavit or in court so I knew we'd lose any suit. So, we just picked up and left.  We're in a great house, a great small neighborhood (my neighbor on one side is a paramedic - always a nice thing to have around!), and the school district has been incredible. Josh is in a self-contained classroom (never was happy about that but he seems to be thriving!) in a regular ed jr. h.s. (6ht grade!!!!), loves his teacher and aides. The third week of school they took a trip over to the special ed coop for swimming and, whammo, he slipped in the shower and broke his femur! So, surgery, a titanium rod, a couple of screws, and many weeks of recovery, but his leg is just fine (and we'll be back to Special Olympics as soon as possible).  During the recovery (school dist provided a tutor and, holy cow, did he progress - hhmmmm, says something about classroom settings!), both the tutor (a former RN) and one of the live-in aides (had to have aides so I could continue to work) notice what they believed were seizures - sure enough, had the EEG and neurodoc confirmed epileptic brain activity. A couple of weeks ago we did a 24-hour EEG at Univ. of Chicago and they again confirmed the epileptic activity but, weirdness of weirdness, not when we all believed he was having seizures! The " episodes " we thought were the seizures showed absolutely no abnormal brain activity - the epileptic activity was during sleep and other activities (like I was doing puzzles with him and reading) - makes you wonder how that is affecting educational development - lots more questions for the neurodoc when we go back in March.  But, Josh has been on meds for seizures and, apparently, the real ones are, at least outwardly, being controlled. He's talking up a storm, doing just great academically (still quite far behind but progressing nicely). I think I'm loving home ownership, dealing with the ex (as usual), and busy with work.  I read the emails here still very often, just rarely have the time to respond as much as I would like. Hope all is well with you and your family - jealous of that Florida weather (even when it's cold, it's nowhere near Chicago's!!)!  Sherry and Josh Haven't heard from you in a bit -would love to catch up -is everything going OK (PS send me your number again I dropped my phone off a boat a few months ago!...not on purpose! haha) =====
Guest guest
Sherry I'm going to contact the company tomorrow and ask. The only possible form of natural MSG you mention that I can gather as the product is sodium free would be from the protein- the glutamic acid which is part of the protein...and from what I read if one wants to avoid glutamic acid then they also need to avoid meat, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy products, and protein-rich plant foods " Glutamic Acid The most common excitatory (stimulating) neurotransmitter in the central nervous system, has protective effects on the heart muscle in people with heart disease. " http://www.orthomolecular.org/nutrients/proteins.shtml You've been a member here long enough to know this so reminds me of when they started warning expectant moms to avoid seafood -which contains the PUFAs so essential for neurological and other development. It's all balance and options -probably fish oils are the best way to go in that situation -or fish low on the food chain like sardines. But not (in many expert opinions today) " no seafood " which is what happens. But back to glutamic acid ...I can tell you are very passionate about this (haha 3 long emails from you later!!) -but being you say you have not yet really explored nutriiveda you should possibly look at the fact that our of the 10 plus years we've run this group we've NEVER seen any supplement work show surges so quickly (mostly in a few days) in so many areas, in so many in this group, with so many different conditions. Have you read 's blog??? And wait till Robin shares her most recent update. http://littlemermaidmelanie.wordpress.com/about I mean this is incredible -and it needs to be studied -I'm sure it will be! Again -the good thing is all it takes is for me to find out tomorrow direct from the company. Since even the links you provided don't say " always " for the whey isolate protein -I'd say this one is probably free of it as it's probably unlikely that Dr. Deepak Chopra would have MSG in his product as any nutritional expert I've shared the product ingredients with have been impressed that it appears they went to great lengths to avoid any possible allergies and provide the best possible product. Sit tight -will find out tomorrow for ya! =====
Guest guest
I am so happy to hear that things are going so awesome now -outside of the break and seizures I remember however that Josh was reacting to all the stress when you were first going through the divorce -so it must be just catch up now which is what it sounds like and he's making great gains! Thanks fantastic! With the abuse that went on -this had nothing to do with the same school the amazing Dr. Bob was at right??? I will be heartbroken if it was -who could we trust if we couldn't trust Dr. Bob??!! OK a bit dramatic -but really -it has to be he wasn't involved in the abuse right? You have got to get in touch with Mel's mom Robin -they 'did' sue the PA school system for abuse and won. And PS -if you guys ever come to Florida let me know -I'll meet you since it would probably be at Disney or Universal- we are the ride family still! Here's the message I've sent out so many times with advice from Dr. Bob) And...Here is a great message on how to test children who are globally apraxic from one of our member's (Sherry) child's doctor - " Dr. Bob " You can use this in addition to what's in The Late Talker to help advocate. (Hurray for " Dr. Bob " ! The type of neuropsychologist we all would love to take our child to) " Summary of assessment procedures Children with significant language and motor skills delays E. Friedle, Ph.D. Clinical/Neuropsychologist Formalized assessment of children with low incidence disablitities does not often provide accurate or practical information about their cognitive functioning skills. Such assessmenet does provide evidence that these children often have not learned how to respond in direct one-to-one reciprocal testing situations, or that they are unable to respond in those situations due to the nature of their disabilities. The lack of response should not be considered then, necessarily, as a global and fixed delay in cognitive/intellectual potential. Developmental theorists and practitioners have long known that cognitive growth is not only enhanced, but also dependent upon opportunities to experience a wide variety of sensory stimuli in an interactive relationship. Problem solving skills, analytical reasoning, and decision-making are all formalized, cognitively, when integration of information is ongoing. Language and motor skill limitations often prevent the integration and experiences and thus certain cognitive growth waits until such experiences may be provided. Children may have learned to problem-solve and reason in ways that are not assessed by formalized evaluations and are only recognizable when the child is allowed to experience sensory information in a manner most productive to them. It is often then necessary for the examiner to assess what opportunities and experiences the child may have had already, how an assessment may prompt the child to show what they can do with various stimuli and how problem solving, analytical, and decision making skills can be exhibited by a child in a non-formalized approach. The purpose of an assessment request has to be relevant to the child and to their experiences, i.e. the child needs to see some purpose for providing a response. A very simple example of this premise is: asking them to name an object may result in no response, but asking them to get the object may show a knowledgeable response. Children with language and motor deficits often play within the restrictions that their limitations have presented and this " changed " pattern of play, from what is seen with non-disabled children, can be a direct reflection of their ability to problem solve and reason in play. An example for this may be when a child finds that laying things down and flat makes it easier to manipulate, or that moving things closer or out of the way facilitates motor planning and play. Often the child may see no purpose to expand experiences, or have not figured out independently how to change their play patterns. Restrictions in movement or language limit the experiences a child has had with objects and stimuli. The need to practice simple movements, to hear the words that go along with those movements, and then to ask a child to duplicate the movements and/or the words can greatly facilitate cognitive growth. If a child can readily make such duplicated responses then the potential for cognitive growth at that point presents no limitations. An examiner can lead the play situation in these types of activities and note the ability of the child to engage in the " play " at a different level. The purpose is then presented clearly for the child, both for the language and for the movement, and thus becomes an active part of their developmental growth and understanding. Sometimes showing them or asking them to change their approach results in a larger perspective of possibilities in play. The examiner is an active participant in the assessment approach, engaged with the child in the semi-directed play type of assessment. The examiner notes closely when a child shows a lack of understanding of the language presented or an inability to make the movements requested. At all times the examiner is assessing how well the child appears to follow the purpose of the activity or the change in direction of an activity.
