Guest guest
Hi There, My almost 2 yr old son is doing very well on NV and fish oils (ProEFA and ProEPA). Before he was diagnosed with apraxia at 21 mos, we scheduled an appt for a pediatric developmental evaluation at Dupont Hospital in Delaware (we're in Philly). They recently called me to move our appt up by numerous months, so I'm trying to figure out whether I should take my son off of fish oils and NV for this appt and how? He essentially went from having about 5 words and not doing any imitating before we received our apraxia diagnoses, started him with the right therapists and started him on NV - to now, less than 3 full months later - having almost 50 words or approximations and starting to do 1 to 3 word or approximation phrases/sentences. My understanding from reading the Late Talker book and this board is that it's a good idea to do a pediatric dev or pediatric neuro eval to make sure there aren't other issues to be addressed along with the apraxia -- hence our reason for keeping this appt. Since my son already received a diagnoses for verbal apraxia and we're not using our appt for that purpose, do I really need to take him off of NV and fish oils for this appt? We're already set with doing speech therapy through early intervention 2x a week and with a private SLP one time a week - so it's not like we're looking to document a need for additional speech services right now. And if you do recommend that we take him off of NV/fish oils for the appt - how should we do it? (how far before the appt and when/how to add them back in)? Thanks for any help you can provide! Guest guest
Oh so happy to hear this!!! Not everyone updates and we all so appreciate when parents take the time to do so. And.... Unless you started the NV sooner by getting it elsewhere- I have that you first ordered it on September 15- so really amazing surges for 3 months -but even more so as it seems by the time you got it and all probably closer to 2 months! Here's the email I sent to you on the 15th " Great! And just call me if you have any issues -I'm here for you and excited you are going to be trying this soon -it's been so life changing for so many of us!! Do keep me posted -I'd be shocked if it didn't work- really! Thanks! 772 335 5135 " Reading all these updates like yours and the rest just warms the heart. So exciting that we may have found an answer to help so many making the journey a bit easier and shorter. For you or anyone -please submit testimonies as well that we can add up to http://pursuitofresearch.org/testimonials.html Based on what you wrote I wouldn't stop the NV -but don't be shocked to get either a different or lesser diagnosis. For an IEP I would recommend stopping but sounds like your child may not qualify for EI services in another year anyway (YAY!!!) =====
