Guest guest
Thank you Maureen, I will look these up. I'm just waiting for a meeting date, all the testing is done. They send me the reports as they finish them. The testing listed is those areas is Adaptive Behavior Assessment System, Second Edition (ABAS II-)parent and (ABAS-II)-teacher. This is the system where you and the teacher would fill out a questionairre about how she gets along in school/home situations. The other testing listed is: Stanford Binet Intelligence Scales-Fifth Edition, Observation, Review of File, Physical, Social/Health history. Hope this is some of what you're looking for. Maureen > > Does anyone know what scales are used to measure the Social/Emotional/Adaptive Behavior for a first grader in the Fall?----I am not signing off on the Intellectual Development testing---but one of our SLPs who goes to IEPs more so than the others---has given me a heads up that that other category can sometimes trip speech kids up--due to their poor speech/language skills---but also their built up frustrations and she said it can then connect to the Intellectual Development if they are deemed to immature etc. > > Has anyone had that experience with the Social Emotional scale sand does anyone know what scales are going to be sued for this age group? ----I plan to ask anyway at school for every test that will be administered I'd liek a list in advance----I know---they're going to Love me!--But I just don't want them to jump to any undue conclusions--I know speech/language kids are so often misdiagnosed/misplaced in educational settings etc. > > My daughter has made huge progress since her first assessment at 3 years when she was basically non-verbal--but we have ways to go for her to be able to speak like a typical 5 year old--and for those who do not understand where she's coming from--her answers and reactions can seem off at times. > > Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Guest guest
Hi , Thank you for your reply. They want to test: * Academic Achievement---with the Resource Specialist--but her teacher knows her best and can really be the best one to say what she knows or doesn't know. * Health--with the nurse--and parental interview I presume--otherwise what can the nurse do except take her temperature and pulse? * Intellectual Development--with the psychologist--and this is a definite NO as far as I am concerned--I do not suspect cognitive problems and do not want her to be labeled low IQ and then have that thrown at us whenever their resource specialist fails to provide appropriate remediation strategies which i am beginning to suspect she will need for reading and writing--as it si common with children with neurological speech/language disorders * Language Speech/ Communication Development--SLP-- I hope that's clear--but if they just ask questions she will answer OK--she needs the Kaufman apraxia test--or somethign to test her multisyllabic word production and free speech--hear her tell a story--that is where her speech breaks down and the context is less known for a stranger so she is about 60--70% intelligible--sometimes less-depends how hard you try and how much time you give her--like a teacher with 30 kids in the class has much time... * Motor Development--with the psychologist--thsi is kind of ridiculous--i may not accept this either unless an OT does it * Social/Emotional/Adaptive/Behavior---with psychologist * Other measures--observation, review of records, interview--with psychologist.Gosh--it really helps to write this out---it sure seems like the psychologist is the one who is doing the job of the OT here--and that's not right. Hmmm--my daughter has speech apraxia with mild hypotonia and sensory issues that are mostly resolved now after 2 years of private OT--and upper trunk hypotonia--mild and also mostly OK now--but W is still her favorite position and at school they are mostly on the floor--it is a Montessori program so core strength would be critical. What does a psychologist know about thsi and how it can affect a child'a ttention and ability to stay on task etc? I think I need to speak with thsi psychologist tomorrow if possible to understand what exactly she will be testign and explain that IQ testing is not an option we would ever agree to. Thank you.
