Guest guest
I hope others answer as well -but I would definably call Dr. Agin's office because even if she isn't taking new patients her office can refer you to someone else. I know Dr. Abba Cargan at least used to have an office in both NJ and NYC and is a pediatric neurologist that is spoken highly of as well. Most neurodevelopmental MDs don't have a background as an SLP for a number of years prior to medical school -that is what sets Dr. Marilyn Agin (my co author of The Late Talker book) apart from many others. Here are just three neuroMDs I've heard great things about from a past archive: Pediatric neurologists Dr. Abba Cargan who at least used to be out of Columbia in NY -and in practice in NJ. Cargan Abba MD (address I found online- I'd call to see if he still practices in NYC as well or just in Springfield NJ now) 6 Timber Acres Road Springfield, NJ 07081-3610 (908) 233-5000 http://www.vitals.com/doctors/Dr_Abba_Cargan.html http://www.cumc.columbia.edu/publications/reporter/archives/repo_v5n1_0003.html and Dr. Ming http://njms.umdnj.edu/resource_locator/find_people/profile.cfm?mbmid=mingxu And in the " NJ area " -Dr. Agin of course! She is a neurodevelopmental pediatrician, Medical Director of EI for NYC, my child's neuroMD and my co author of The Late Talker! Marilyn C. Agin, MD, FAAP Neurodevelopmental Pediatrician 79 Laight St. #1A (private office) New York, NY 10013 212-274-9180 (private office phone) http://www.cherab.org/information/aginmdapraxia.html http://drgreene.mediwire.com/main/Default.aspx?P=Content & ArticleID=132720 http://www.cherabfoundation.org/2004/when-silence-isnt-golden And you can also email these support contacts- not sure if they are still active but if not it's typically because their children are off doing " normal " stuff- so good if you can pick their brains anyway as to who they recommend or used to help their child get to where he or she is! Guest guest
Most of my daughers doctors are in NYC, even though we live an hour away. Thats just wehre the good ones are! Her Ped Neuro has an office in White Plains but his main office is in Mt Sinai. We've been seeing him for five years. He takes some getting used to but he's very knowledgeable, has said that he sets the standard for insurance companies and I've heard him on the phone with insurance companies telling them so! The other places to try would be Montifiore in the Bronx, we've seen Dr Balaban-Gil. She was good but it was just too hard to drive to the Bronx. Tara's Ped Neurosurgeon is at NYU Medical center, where she just had her surgery. You could try there too. Dont know any on Long Island, except for a group in White Plains that has offices out there. I have a very good friend who is a Neuropsychologist PhD. He has offices in NYC and Queens but only treats adults. He gave me the name of a Pediatric Neuropsychologist, when we thought we needed one a couple years ago. He does not take insurance and wants his $2600 up front.lmk if you want his name. They said he'd do a five-hour evaluation.

Guest guest
Thanks for all of the responses, ladies. I'll have to check my insurance for those doctors. Dawn, I tried e-mailing you through the group, but maybe it didn't go through, or I did it incorrectly. Dr. Eviatar at Schneider's (Cohen's) is the doctor that is in our plan, so if you know anything about her in particular that would be extra helpful. I'll have to check and see if they are in the same group. From: Dawn Falley Sent: Saturday, November 13, 2010 12:48 PM Subject: [ ] Re: neurologist rec - NYC?
