Guest guest
Hi all, I have been getting many inquiries about NV from parents of the children that I work with. Hopefully you can answer some questions: 1. Are most of you using this product in powder form? If so, what has been the most successful solid to mix it with? 2. Is the dose determined by the age/weight of a child? 3. Do you begin slowly and gradually and increase increase the dose? 4. Is it okay to add this to the Nordic Natural supplements?(GI,behavior, allergies, etc.) Also, in the past, I suggested that parents investigate the supplement SPEAK in view of the wonderful claims made by Dr. Agin. However, recently, I have read some very scary stories about this product and shared it with those families that currently have their children taking SPEAK. Has anyone contacted Dr. Agin to comment on this? I think it would be very important considering she was involved in the study. Has Dr. Agin commented on the reports coming in about NV. I want to thank and commend all of you for sharing, informing and persevering in helping children learn to better communicate. I have been passionate in working with children who have difficulty speaking for over 30 years and find this area of alternative supplements, biomedical science, etc. fascinating. Also, this spreadsheet will be so helpful. Thanks again for helping me out with the questions above. Guest guest
Hi ! That's awesome you will be able to document in your practice as well what we are seeing. Barbara from land who runs Help Me Speak in land has a number of patients using it already -and some of them have posted their updates here. What's odd with this one is that even though we have one message after another searching for those not seeing surges it appears to be rare not to work. Two of the three people that answered here that they didn't see surges...reported surges but just not as much as they wanted. And of course some of the reports coming in in days are out of this world -almost unbelievable -but I've seen them myself in my own son and it's validated by his school professionals. So clearly this is something that our children's bodies really needed. Here are the answers to your question: > 1. Are most of you using this product in powder form? If so, what has been > the most successful solid to mix it with? you may want to read this page here: http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=115029735601 & topic=13047 which for now is probably the best place to find a bunch of information on this in one place. The nutriiveda is a powder -either chocolate or vanilla. You can mix it with any type of milk, juice, or water and make a yummy shake or " chocolate milk " or " fruit smoothie " You don't have to mix it in liquid -you can also mix it into pudding, apple sauce, yogurt, peanut butter, ice cream -I've even heard ketchup! (and icing) or sprinkle it on food such as cereal, oatmeal, pancakes, etc. You just don't want to cook with it or mix it with anything that is boiling. Everything in the nutriiveda is certified a food -and Sowmya from our group is from India, her grandmother was some type of ayurvedic doctor there -and Sowmya shares that everything in the Nutriiveda she's used as food in her own home for years -has been used in ayurvedic medicine for close to 5000 years. I have shared some of the information here about studies that explain some of what we are seeing -the importance of the whey isolate protein, essential amino acids, and turmeric specifically so far -but we don't know how synergisticly all these are working together to create surges that go beyond anything we've ever seen before. > 2. Is the dose determined by the age/weight of a child? > Here are the suggested dosages as posted to the apraxia.org fb link I posted above: Dosage used so far OK'd by child's doctors (so far all doctors both traditional medical and alternative as well as nutritionist approved by all and most MDs have said " don't know if it will help with speech but can't hurt and should add some good nutrition " ) Birth to three - one scoop a day (can be split into half scoop twice a day) Four to Eight -two scoops a day (can be split into 1 scoop twice a day) Nine and up to adult -can take up to four scoops a day -recommended to split 2 scoops 2x a day. If you need to lose weight you will on this and quickly -if you don't you won't (those that needed to gain weight gained) works with the body. reports from adults using it for weight loss -tons of energy, focus, no more cravings. For adults too appear to support metabolic system- metabolism appears to rejuvenate. (being used by some of our parents, grandparents, and professionals as well) Used 2x a day comes out to around $2.70 for full meal and vitamin replacement. Again does not have to be for weight loss and can be served with food. (won't be able to eat as much food however) Good point on the above is that it doesn't have to be meal replacement but can be -but is full vitamin replacement. > 3. Do you begin slowly and gradually and increase increase the dose? > Just the first day or so some give a small amount to make sure there are no signs of allergies to anything in it -but other than that you want to go to the full dosage that you can for the child's age because the product based on feedback does appear to be dosage dependent. This can answer questions in future research as well. We have numerous reports of children that had no surges on a half dosage but had surges on a full dosage. We also have who is now 26 years old that on an accidental half dosage for 3 days regressed back to almost where she started -which is pretty profound -but back on again went back to the new Mel. Robin will be sharing an update (she promised me she was working on it last night) as there are so many new things to report -like Mel probably going back to school (!!!) and Mel having a conversation with Robin about how frustrated she is and wants to be like her sisters (OMG!!!) http://littlemermaidmelanie.wordpress.com/about > 4. Is it okay to add this to the Nordic Natural supplements?(GI,behavior, > allergies, etc.) Yes you can use with the fish oils- some are seeing surges however without the fish oils like Mel. Mel may be starting the fish oils after about a month or so with a new therapist. The nutriiveda appears to be working for even those children that the fish oils did not work for -as well as of course for those that they have. Adding the nutriiveda to the fish oils for my son Tanner has had profound effects in so many areas -and I'd be more than happy to arrange for you to speak to his head of school who is " blown away " by the sudden and remarkable surges across the board. I just put a call into his therapist here Dr. Renai Jonas who I can't wait to see with Tanner as I know she will be blown away as well. A few years ago we even put electrodes on Tanner's face to try to stimulate nerve endings so that he would move his face more when not engaged in conversation as he still typically had a blank look much of the time due to his oral apraxia. Since nutriiveda -nonverbal communication and facial expressions all the time. There are so many areas of improvement I wouldn't even know which to credit as the most amazing -but to sum it up -Tanner is now like he probably would have been if he was never apraxic -or as close as one could be. He is NOT the same child -more mature now -turning into a bit of a geek when it comes to reading- and as his teachers say " more social and just seems happier " (not that he wasn't social -but now he's participating more in the conversation aspects with friends and in class) We are for whatever reasons seeing very similar " side effects " as we do with the fish oils and like the the fish oils pretty quick surges on and regressions off -but surges once put back on again. The nutriiveda appears however to be working even faster than the fish oils as if that's possible- but in a day to a few days in most cases. So quickly in fact that most don't even at first credit the nutriiveda as it seems to be impossible. Some do report that the child becomes " defiant " or " hyper " or " is chewing on (fill in the blank) " but some of these same children never went through terrible twos or the oral exploration stage so the parents don't realize that these are actually good signs -and like the fish oils you can reduce or stop dosage but either way passes in about a week or so as being reported. So far three of our children -my son Tanner, Ketchum, and Sowmya's son regressed when taken off or dosage reduced within days -and when done more than once as in Tanner and Sowmya's son's case -regression each time. Just like oils again once back on the surges come back. What is again perplexing to me is just how many children this is working for with such a diverse range of ages and diagnosis and severity levels. About Speak -my son Tanner had MASSIVE regressions on that product and it lasted about 7 months -this was just from less than 2 weeks on Speak. While my son and many others in this group did great on lower levels of vitamin e given with the fish oils (and vitamin e is added to the oils too for 2 reasons) I feel like I poisoned my son on speak based on what happened due to the massive amount of vitamin e and k and am furious that nobody ever mentioned the even possible hypervitaminosis!! (vitamin poisoning) After a few days on this product I didn't see any surges or regressions -but then on day 5 I first reported to one of the doctors behind it but not Dr. Agin about my son's unusual bout of profound vomiting and diarrhea -so bad that it was like water- no control - which lasted for a few hours after being so severe, but within hours he was eating normal food and by after school hours playing normally with friends. Of course that day I didn't give him the speak -the next day I gave him a half dosage of speak and got a call from his school that Tanner is " white like a ghost and feels like he is going to throw up " which started up the next day after I put him back on speak again that the word " hypervitaminosis " wasn't even suggested as a possibility -why didn't that doctor say to me " it probably has nothing to do with the vitamin e in speak but that 'could' be a sign he's getting too much vitamin e or k " ???? I mean my son had at that point been on fish oils for almost 10 years -and even on high dosages at times with nothing but good news to report- no side effects ever. I didn't take my son's regressions on speak which started right after the vomiting days when I reduced and played around with the dosage as seriously at first because as you know with just the fish oils the regressions go away once you put them back on the right formula of oils....but this wasn't fish oils as it was mixed with mega dosages of vitamin E AND K....and the regression lasted for over 7 months if you check the archives. If you do speak with Tanner's school professionals they can share about his regressions at that time to. I actually had to go to his school to talk for him and share what happened because my son went from being a fairly normal student to one that would open his mouth and he would grope and nothing or little would come out. You have no idea the horror and I feel by the Grace of God Tanner didn't remain impaired. I pray for the other children that regressed or had seizures in days on this product as well and honestly do not in my wildest dreams understand why this product is still on the market. In my opinion it should be only available by prescription if at all. Here's a page on speak from the same apraxia.org page which includes an excellent report in my opinion on speak http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=115029735601 & topic=10637 Tanner didn't get back to where he was prior to the speak until nutriiveda -and this is now 2 years since that nightmare -and now he's far surpassed where he was before. I actually today am curious if Tanner's sudden weight issues were due to something the speak did. He was always off the charts in height and weight but not fat -it was like he couldn't lose weight no matter how much exercise or how healthy he ate. That's the only reason I put him on the nutriiveda as a natural way to help him shed some unwanted pounds -and in fact that area was OMG too -he went from 5 foot 7 162 pounds to 5 foot 10 147 in about 3 months. But if it wasn't for Tanner's weight I guess I never would have put him on the nutriiveda -or at least twice a day -and none of us would know what we know today. I have to post photos but want to make sure I don't embarrass Tanner -so I'm torn -but it's amazing. I have not spoken to Dr. Agin much about the nutriiveda but do know that she was very interested in it as she has like you an understanding of the importance of nutrition and has patients that want to try it too. I don't however understand any professionals recommendation of speak. I was not aware that Dr. Agin was out promoting speak, but yes she was on the paper as I was too back then which didn't support the product but the possible use of vitamin E for our children. But the dosage of vitamin e used in this group and what ended up in the end product -that is the horrible mystery to me. Why not stick with what works??? To me that would be like " oh nutriiveda is working and it contains whey isolate protein-let's give the children over 3 times the upper tolerable levels of protein a day and see what happens " In third grade I had a very wise science teacher Mr. Lindz who said " too much water you drown " and that stuck with me -you CAN have too much of a good thing. Oxygen, water, food -etc. Sorry didn't mean to go off on a rant about speak -and it's almost odd to come up in the same message as nutriiveda -yin and yang- but I still get chills with horrific memories of Tanner not being able to say even simple sounds like " b " or " h " and having to relearn them all -nightmare!! With the nutriiveda I believe that while we know for a fact the whey isolate protein, amino acids and turmeric are all linked in current research to neuro repair we should not fall into any assumptions over what is best helping at this point for more than one reason. Main one being that the product was formulated and endorsed by the Chopra Center doctors including Dr. Deepak Chopra and there is from my understanding a synergistic aspect to why it's working. So in other words while we can pull out different elements and each may help -we know together as one product what we are seeing is to me nothing shy of a miracle. Life changing. Of course I am fully aware there is some sort of scientific explanation as to what we are seeing -and I am told that if we compile our results that the company said it's " not a problem " and will research to validate what we are seeing. OMG after years of wishing our children's surges were from Mc 's french fries vs fish oils so we could have had research done already to validate what we are seeing(check the archives -I really have!) we found something that is working better than anything I have ever seen that is 100% natural, gluten casein fat sodium free, nutrient dense with whey isolate protein, all the essential amino acids -and an ayurvedic blend all formulated and endorsed by leading medical doctors with no known side effects or drug interactions or even possibility of overdose. You can't say that about Mc 's french fries!!! After ten years I'm so tired of the fear of fish oil -and of course the skepticism about now the nutriiveda too and the reports coming in. To have for once what I'm seeing in my own son validated to help bring a voice to children all over the world -OMG and this easy...and the fact that we started using this as a way to raise money for some VERY impressive PUFA research (which I'd be happy to share with you but am not allowed to post to the group) it's like God has a plan here...and a sense of humor too! I will be putting more information up at http://www.pursuitofresearch.org soon. Hope this helped! =====
Guest guest
, I am actually glad you went on a " rant " about SPEAK. You gave so much info on the account, and since I haven't been here on the boards for such a long time I thought some parents may still be using high doses of E, and Speak was something tucked in the back as a possibility to consider in the future for Shea. You saved us from more heartache. Did have anything to do with the development of SPEAK? I am so happy Tanner has made such a recovery. I have said recently and in the past the tremendous pain and fear we have experienced on a few occassions after trying different supplements with Shea and the horror in seeing functional regression as well as a collapse in her well being resulting in horrific behavior.(the painful dismay is undescribable) If there are new parents here to the boards I think they can take great information and lessons of caution when they read your heartfelt description of Tanner's experience on SPEAK. BTY,I ordered some nutiiveda over a week ago-from your link here-but called the 800 number since I wanted to try one chocolate and one vanilla and didn't know how to do that from the sight, but I still haven't received it. Since the ans service didn't ask for an email I have no way of tracking if it was sent.IF yoiu know, typically how long does it take to get somewhere(spesifically NJ) Thank you, Cheryl > > Hi ! > > That's awesome you will be able to document in your practice as well what we are seeing.
