This move towards healthy eating in the business and conferencing sector highlights the importance of good nutrition to boost mental performance and wellbeing for professionals. The accreditation was achieved by undertaking a Nutritional Audit conducted by The Partnership, the UK’s largest catering, food service and conference consultancy group, who have been working closely with Food for the Brain; an educational charity established by leading nutritionist Holford. The audit was led by , one of the Partnership’s Nutrition Consultants, who praised Dolce La Hulpe’s efforts: ‘The Chef, Pascal Marcin and his team are clearly committed to improving nutritional standards, with a view to offering a better learning environment for their delegates. The overall quality of catering is very good with a focus on creative and innovative dishes using fresh produce.’ Audits are accompanied by a comprehensive report giving advice and information on how best to improve the nutritional quality of the catering and gain accreditation by Food for the Brain. In order to achieve the award, catering operations must score over 60% on a range of criteria and achieve an overall mark of at least 75%. The assessment criteria for Food for the Brain accreditation covers: • Menu balance and nutrient value • Ingredient selection and preparation • Menu variety and suitability for special diets • Staff awareness and signposting to the customer Good nutrition is increasingly being recognised as playing a crucial role in mental performance, by impacting upon energy levels, memory, mood and concentration. Businesses are now acknowledging the need to make nutritious food readily available to help people to perform to the best of their ability. Part of the Partnership’s approach, through Food for the Brain, is to enable people to make informed food choices, through appropriate menu signage and information which showcases the benefits of healthier eating habits without removing the important element of personal choice. The Partnership also run workshops and training on the Commercial Application of Nutrition to help train catering staff and chefs in the principles of nutrition in practice.
