Guest guest Posted October 28, 2010 Report Share Posted October 28, 2010 Study: Nearly half of high school students admit they've been bullied October 28, 2010 By Tove Tupper & Wire Reports October 28, 2010 MEDFORD, Ore. - Anti-bullying messages are spreading across the country, as the issue becomes a central focus of national media. A study released this week finds that 50-percent of high school students say they have bullied, teased or taunted someone else in the past year, and 47 percent say they themselves have been bullied, according to 'Ethics of American Youth'. The study, conducted by the non-profit phson Institute of Ethics, surveyed more than 40,000 students. Southern Oregon educators say they cannot take action against bullying unless people come forward and let them know what is going on. However, they say many bulling victims are fearful of getting bullied even more for being a tattletale. This week, the Department of Education is sending letters to schools warning educators they could be held accountable for bullying in hallways and classrooms. The Medford School District says it has yet to receive the letter. The Medford School District say it has zero tolerance for bullying. However, it says part of the accountability falls on parents' shoulders, who they say need to teach young people how to be respectful at home.
