Halloween is nearly here and it's not easy to escape it. With dressing up and

trick-or-treating, it's an exciting time for children but it can also be a

difficult one if your child is on a restricted diet. For example, candy often

contains ingredients like gelatine, which is really animal bones and cartilage

all boiled up together, and carmine, which is made from crushed insects. Neither

of these fit in with a vegetarian or vegan diet and there are other concerns for

parents of children with nut and dairy intollerances or other types of dietary

restriction. Many of these children may in the past have been forced to miss out

on the holiday fun but a new website is seeking to change all that!

http://www.NoTrickTreats.com allows homes that will be offering candy suitable

for special diets to mark themselves on a map, indicating whether their treats

will be suitable for vegan, nut-free, gluten-free, diabetic, organic, raw or

kosher diets. The website also lets trick-or-treaters access a custom map of

their area, showing only the houses which will be giving out Halloween goodies

suitable for them.

The site is easy to use, covers the whole of the United States, and also lists a

number of websites which sell speciality candy online. It's early days yet as

the site has only been online for a short time but word is spreading fast and No

Trick Treats looks set to become a valuable resource for both children and

parents, ensuring that nobody need be excluded from enjoying Halloween

activities.
