My son Tanner at 13 started going through more typical " teen " behavior where he

was always the nice kid before. Just like when I started fish oil when Tanner

was 3 he went through his terrible twos. I'd say the best thing is to compare

notes with parents of " normal " children and you'll be shocked to find out how

difficult normal can be in ways some of us never experienced.

Your choices are to try to lower the NV and hope it doesn't affect progress or

to stop it -but I suspect at this point it's even possible his behavior may get

worse if you add frustration on top of it. I suspect if he regresses in one

aspect cognitively however he may go back to being compliant again. I say this

from experience from my own son. I feel your pain -as much as I love the surges

I miss my son that listened to what I said to him and didn't question much of

what he was asked...now he questions and has an opinion on EVERYTHING.

You should google terrible twos- there is a wealth of information all over and

in this group many of our kids go through it late. And it's been normal to go

through them after being put on fish oils- I suspect NV is stimulating in a

similar way. The good news is that if this is what it is -it's a good and

necessary stage of development...just like zits- we may not always appreciate

each stage however!!

I do cover the change in behavior here

http://pursuitofresearch.com/products/nutriiveda/frequently_asked_questions/ but

that's mainly for those when they first start the first week or so. Again

sounds more like your child's on to this stage (video)

Again much more if you google it and it's normal in this group to go through the

terrible twos late.

Thanks ! We have been off the NV for 2 weeks now and his behaviors have

just started to return to normal in the last 3 days. He's had a few episodes,

but not nearly as severe or long in duration. His sleep is also improving. With

his EE and food allergies, who knows what ingredient in NV he was reacting to.

Just glad I'm starting to get my kid back. Even my daughter said in the car

today that she'd rather have a Henry that's hard to understand than a Henry that

puts us all in tears.

  • 3 weeks later...

It has been awhile since you stopped Nv for your son.I was wondering if you

tried it again and had problems again. We used chocolate last spring with our

then six year old daughter and she had a horrendous escalation in behavior

problems. We started her on the vanillla in 2010 fall and had no behavior

escalations due to the NV. It actually has mildly mellowed out the behaviors.I

know cinnamon and I think cumin are the only difference in the two,so perhaps

it's other factors that I haven't figured out. I'd love to try the chocolate but

am afraid to now. Was your son taking the chocolate? Also, there was brief

mention that coincidently some of the people reporting surges were using the

chocolate. Again, I'm just curious. take care, cheryl

Cheryl,

My son has only taken the vanilla. He is on thickened liquids due to history of

aspiration, so I thought the vanilla would mix better with fruit and yogurt. We

do not plan to restart the NV in the near future. His behaviors and sleep

issues have dramatically improved, but we're still not back to baseline yet.

Luckily he has not lost all of the gains he made in speech on the NV. I do

truly believe that he was reacting to some component of the NV, but with his

multiple food allergies it's hard to tell what.

Good luck with your daughter!
