Guest guest
Hi Sunny and welcome! Have you had private evaluations for Keegan? It's typical that children that are late talkers -undiagnosed and now " resolved " end up with the LD label that is in my opinion in most cases inappropriate. Children that are late to talk due to developmental or impairment reasons have in either situation developmental lags in language which can be resolved with appropriate therapy to catch them up. The fact that he has no issues with computer games is just one example that he found a way to work with learning in that area- and clearly there is more and more education that is available through the internet today. Why was he for example put into functional skill classrooms since kindergarten? Outside of school professionals did anyone else concur on that? If you let us know what state or country perhaps there are others in your area to help you advocate now. If the placement your child is currently in is not appropriate you could fight for what is called " out of district placement " in the IEP which would be covered by your town's school. In fact you may possibly learn that due to their inappropriate placement of your child for the past number of years that it would be appropriate for him to be in ______ to bring him up to speed. I'm not saying that the Montessori isn't appropriate- but unless you just aren't sharing all the details it sounds to me like you just may have a child that fell through the cracks and now is a great time to advocate for him to get him help. It would then be the IEP that would pay if appropriate for whatever placement is appropriate for your child. In addition if he stills has speech issues -he clearly has an impairment and it wasn't just a developmental one. Do you have a diagnosis? Let us know- we can help! =====

Guest guest
Thanks for the reply. We live in Utah. I've only had evaluations from the School District. His I.Q. is below the charts, therefore giving him his classification as LD. There has been no diagnosis for him. I feel that he should not be in a class room with severe children that will never learn and that make screaming noises or sing all the time. This to me is not a learning environment. He is provided a speech therapist a couple times a week through the school . I'm upset with myself letting this go on for as long as I have. I feel there is something more out there for him and its time I seek my hardest to find it. Is it hard to prove this? I dont know where to start.
