How do I improve visual motor Integ (VMI) in 5 year old?

Hi All -

I have a 5 1/2 year old boy with dyspraxia. We have now finally reached the

stage of handwriting (he just now chose a dominant hand). His ability to draw

squares, triangles, Xs, crosses is very poor even with the shape in front of

him. I find it puzzling that he can't even draw the shape when I have drawn one

as an example?? His OT indicated that part of the problem is crossing the

midline (which he has struggled with in the past).

Anyway, I'm looking for exercises and games I can play with him to improve this

skill.

PS-It has been a while since I've been on this group. My son was diagnosed with

dyspraxia at 18 months of age. Thanks to this group, others like it and some

great therapists my son is doing fantastic!!
