I mix my protein powder with fat free lactose free milk and I am 2 years out

this month and still losing. By still losing I mean I will be at a certain

weight for months then all of a sudden boom! 5 + lbs gone. This happened to

me last week, Been 189 for 3 or 4 months and now I am all of a sudden down

to 182 ( all this the week before aunt flo came to visit!) So I definitely

haven't gained any weight from doing my protein drinks this way. I don't

drink them daily though. Just a few times a week

I was looking at the vitalady.com site and she says

not to mix your protein powder with milk, that it will

make you gain weight. Has any one heard of this

before? I've always mixed my protein with milk

because it tastes better (and I don't have a problem

with milk) but maybe I've been doing it wrong.

Your muscles will wither away and your hair will fall out... ok.. that might be the extreme end of it...but you really need your protein.. trust me. smedred <smedred@...> wrote: What happens if I dont get enough protein each day? You have enough protein stores that if you don't get the full # of grams daily, nothing will happen. If you go long term without adequate protein it can affect muscles. When you lose a massive amount of weight you WILL lose some muscle mass. It's a given. The goal here is to maintain as much muscle mass as possible and maintaining protein is a really necessary part of the solution.

Exercise (including cardio and weight resistance) will help a huge amount. A quality diet, vitamins, the works... that's what we all need to be doing. On Nov 8, 2007 11:00 AM, smedred <

Protein is pretty important. But I found something out that is

interesting about protein. I try to get around 60-100 grams a day.

And when we go riding our quads (a very athletic sport) I would

always eat protein when we are out on the trail. well my mom told me

she read something where it said that when you are out on the trail

to eat carbs. because when you are cold weather riding and you eat

protein that your body has to send more blood to your stomach to

break it down so it makes your muscles get colder and it makes you

more sluggish. well it was true for me that day. I was cruisin

along doing awesome feeling great. and then when we stopped for lunch

I Had tuna. and then it was like I could get back up there again, I

was sluggish and cold. so now when we are riding I eat more carbs

and I just try to eat lighter all together. I mostly just drink

water and have a small snack. I find that I stay warmer and have more

energy when I do this. So, when I ride I do my protein shake in the

morning, a Starbucks on the way (tradition) and then have some more

protein and a salad for dinner. With this process I learn something

new all the time! :-)

take care,

I have been following this post and decided yesterday that I have had

enough of starving, so I went out and bought 3 kinds of protein

powder. I am on day 8 post-oop, and I am on filled liquids. I

decided to try a nonflavored protein powder in my broth (mostly

because I called the office and told me no, it is not ok to

cheat even if you are starving. dang.). I read in a different post

that the trick to heating protein powder is to do it slowly, so I

added a scoop of it to my chicken broth and heated it slowly

(stirring in between bursts of heating) and it worked! I was WAY

less hungry when I went to bed last night, and I woke up feeling good

this morning. Yay! I just had a cup of broth with protein for

breakfast, too.

I also got an eggnog flavored soy protein, but I tried it with milk

last night and it was WAY to thick. Bleck. I need to try it again

with water, maybe blended in my new Magic Bullet. I will post about

how THAT one tastes!

Ya and I CRAVE protein! Of course, I crave it in the form of

chicken, fish, beef...

But in the interim I will settle for powder. :)

I think you might want to look at the total cost here. For example, my Matrix 5.0 comes out to about $0.55 per serving, that's a meal. I used to spend $8.00 at a fast food restaurant. My Whey Gourmet is about $1.00 per meal. Not sure how much the Unjury is. It may be an initial cost but in the end it's usually a GREAT deal cheaper than a regular meal.

Vitamins... Centrum has a chewable vitamin for adults, orange or berry flavored I believe. I take Flinstones. ;o)On Feb 6, 2008 8:58 PM, jada_katt <jada_katt@...> wrote:

I was wondering if there is a affordable way to get protein. The

Isopure online is not cheap at GNC. How much should I buy?

Just a friendly comment: please be very careful traveling in Mexico. Do not go anywhere but your destination. Do not bring jewelry, valuables, and dress very casually. I would not drive any fancy late model cars into Mexico if I had a choice. This is not to discourage you from going, I support this process 100%. In fact, I'm scheduled for surgery shortly. I've been to Mexico many times and would love to retire in Mexico.

Hey Dawna, :o)

Check out the cost of the Isopure online. When I got mine, which was

before Christmas, it was on sale for $35/3 pound cannister. I order

from both drugstore.com and gnc.com. drugstore.com has free shipping

on orders over $50 and GNC has, at times, had free shipping with

purchases of $50-$75, depending on their promotion.

I checked the prices online then went to our local store where they

were marked $60. I questioned that and turns out they were on sale

just not marked that way. That's where I got two cannisters and

because of my amount of purchase, I got a Gold Card for free. GNC

has this Gold Card which gives 20% off on purchases made in the first

week of each month.

So, long and short, is if you can get the Isopure on sale, take

advantage of the discounts and free shipping, yada, yada, you can get

a 50gram protein serving down to just over a dollar per.

The Unjury is about the same cost per serving but a serving there is

only about 20grams protein. Personally, I'm not caring for the

Unjury as it has a faint sour milk unlying taste to me. But then I

can be weird too. ;o)

I've not tried any of the other brands really---just the EAS

Advantage ready-to-drink drinks you can get at WalMart. Even those,

which I love and have used for years, come out about $1.25 per

serving.

Heh... You're going through what I did, at about the same point. I

was a couple of months out from surgery when I started collecting

various things. I wanted to try all, or most, of them before surgery

so I'd know what I'd be able to stand afterward. And I shopped

around as much as I could too. :o)

Bipley,

I am so glad that you said you take Flinstones! That is what I take too! I was told once by a nurse on the blood mobile to take them because they were one of the best on the market and I was having problems with my iron being high enough to give blood, but since I have been on them I have not had any problems at all. Plus they taste good.

The best and cheapest place I have found is:www.netrition.comShipping is around $5 regardless of how much or how little you buy.PVL (Whey Gourmet Choco/PB but the other flavors are gross), EAS (low carb version, NOT the body builder weight gain products), and Syntrax (Matrix 5.0 Choco is a fav) products are my favs for protein products. For bars I prefer Atkins Advantage.

No, you can't buy most of the stuff at GNC.On Feb 7, 2008 2:00 PM, Dawna <jada_katt@...> wrote:

Hi all, I have been traveling to Mexico for many, many years and have never had a problem. We have gone way down Baja to San Quinten, driven in and around TJ and of course now to Mexicali. We have always drive our cars when new and no problem....If you go looking for trouble you will probably find it. Hi Lynn, I like most all of the different brands of Whey that I've

tried and only make sure there isn't Aspartame in it or Splenda. I

only get the ones with Stevia as a sweetener and like to buy the huge

sizes from Costco because I have a fruit smoothie twice a day for my

meals. I've lost over 20 lbs in the last couple of months on this

diet and I really need to loose 20 more if possible to help with my

knee surgery.

Hi Lynn, Costco has their whey towards the back of the store near

their drug department (at least in our Costco that's where you'll find

it). Can't beat their price anywhere.

so it's the lack of water not the level of protein? For each gram of protein are

you supposed to drink a certain amount of water? My husband has given the green

light to get NV after seeing that whey isolate protein powder is helping him.

Yesterday he told my dad, he was a " crane engineee " of course I was the only one

I don't know if there's a medical amount of protein vs water--but we're

supposed to be drinking 8- 8oz glasses of water every day (children probably

a little less) Who really keeps vigilant with that the way we should? I'm

a water person, but even *I* can't seem to keep up with that amount daily.

with anything and the kidneys and livers-- etc WATER is a key and vital

thing to keep them healthy and functioning

I was wondering if a couple of you would be willing to help me out.  I can't seem to find a good protein powder.  I live in a small town and the only source of protein that I have is the Whey Protein powders at WalMart.  The only flavors they have are Choco, Vanilla, and Strawberry.  While the flavors are decent, they get old very fast.  I have tried experimenting to make them taste different, but it's just not cutting it.  I have gotten to where I'm not even having my protein shakes at all because I can't stand the taste.  So on to my question.  Would anybody be willing to send me a few different flavors, maybe like single-serving size that I could try out with the information on where to get it?  I hesitate to just randomly buy some online for fear that I won't like the taste and waste my money.  I would be willing to pay shipping (sending it COD would be fine).

I'm sorry to hear that, but all of that protein that tastes good, it pure garbage, only to sell the product and not telling the truth, I just try unflavored of injury in apple juice and almost made me vomit, go to quick weigh loss web page (Blue web Page) and try some of their products like strawberry banana gelatin each pack have 15 gr of protein and taste excellent, homestyle soup just drain the residual and drink the broth, quick boost better than crystal ligh has plenty of vitamins. etc

I don't know you but every time that I get a sip of liquid my stomach feel like a air tank has been swallowed and taking the nutrition space.

Hope this help you soon
