Guest guest
Hi Doug I am glad someone else has verified the value of fish oil. I have mentioned that I believe it improved my condition but it seemed to raise little interest. I use oil that comes from the body of the fish and think that high doses of liver oil might cause an overdose of Vitamin A so you should watch for symptoms of VitA toxicity. Also I had noted a particular arthritic flare after a meal of fish, shrimp and fries (chips for those of you across the pond). I have eaten potatos in many forms since then with no apparent ill effects but havent repeated the fish or shrimp since. Guest guest
I tried taking the fish oil soft gels and I could never get over the taste! All during the day I would have that nasty after-taste. Anyone got any suggestions on how to get past that? Thanks, Les
Guest guest
na, You could use Coromega brand fish oil. I am always recommending it to other parents (I should do commercials for them!). Anyway, Its molecularly distilled, high in EPA's and it tastes really good- like orange cream. My kids and I like it and it doesn't have an aftertaste. Guest guest
na, after reading 's post I remembered to tell you that Coromega doesn't have any vitamin A in it like the Cod Liver Oil. We use Nordic Naturals too, along with the Coromega because my kids do better with high levels of EPA. > > > > Hi, > > > > I took my son to see a DAN Doctor on Monday and one of the supplements > > she has us use is 1/4 tsp of Fish oil every day. Guest guest
Sorry I didn't specify the brand we got from the Doctor's office. It is from Vital Nutrients Ultra Pure Fish oil with Coenzyme Q10. It cost me $152, so I have to use this one first before I try any others. Do you have suggestions for hiding the flavor? I will definitely have to try the others you have all suggested. Thanks again ~na > > > > > > Hi, > > > > > > I took my son to see a DAN Doctor on Monday and one of the supplements > > > she has us use is 1/4 tsp of Fish oil every day. Guest guest
WHOA!!! $152 for fish oil? I go to one of the highest priced DANs in the country and my fish oil runs only about $30. Is that particular fish oil really necessary??? Do you have suggestions for hiding the flavor? That fish oil apparently has CoQ10 added. CoQ10 is very expensive. If your child needs the CoQ10, be sure to add it separately if you switch to another fish oil. But I would think that buying these two supplements separately would still be less expensive than buying the one you currently use. Guest guest
Something to consider too: I've read that CoQ10 starts losing its efficacy pretty quickly when it is exposed to light, etc. I would have to wonder if the CoQ10 that's been sitting in fish oil is really going to work as it should. But na, don't lose heart. I wasted probably $10 worth of supplements yesterday alone (bad, bad day). There is a learning curve here. Sometimes it is steep. The best thing to do, whenever possible, is ask the questions here before you spend the money/try the treatment. Then you can learn from the mistakes of others--it costs less that way, financially and otherwise. Also, do any of you take CLO oil during during the summers when you are spending time in the sun? If so, has this ever caused a problem with vitamin d toxicity? Just trying to figure out what to take? ==>Salmon, krill and other fish oils are all good - I haven't researched them yet. It depends upon how much of a sun worshipper you are as to whether CLO is okay. Bee

Guest guest
Hi list, Flaxseed is not effective as a source of Omega-3. Flaxseed oil is mostly Alpha-Linolenic fatty acid and it has to undergo three metabolic steps in the body to be converted to EPA and five steps to be converted to DHA. These steps require the presense of hard-to-get enzymes like desaturase and elongase. Most older folk do not produce enough of these enzymes and the flaxseed is not converted to the beneficial omega-3 fattys acids so immediately available in fish oils. Some studies place the rate of convertion below 30% Regards Fish Oil > Hey All, > I'm taking fish oil and hate the burping up of 'fish'. She told me to take it because I didn't want to take cholesterol meds. any more.. I go next month to get my blood test to see if I'm still ok. I was taking flax seed oil but she said it doesn't work nearly as well as fish oil.. I get the kind that doesn't make you belch fish taste or smell. bev > Blood tests for adrenals do not always come back normal. Can you tell me what you are taking and if it is really helping? I also do not want to take cholesterol meds. if I can take natural. Guest guest
I get mine at Wal Mart and it's the kind that is coated so it doesn't repeat on you.. I don't know if it is working yet, I go next month for tests to see if it is.. I've been taking it for 5 months. Do you eat meat? I've given up all meat except seafood once in a while. And I don't eat hardly any dairy either. So in others words not very much animal food at all. I gave this up before I started taking fish oil when I had to have my gallbladder out last Aug. and after a few month did the test and my cholesterol was very low so I could go off the cholesterol meds. then started taking fish oil. so we'll see in July is it works. Guest guest
I too don't want to take the cholesterol drugs, and I am taking Policosanol. At 1 pill=23gm I dropped 20 points. Now I'm taking 2 pills=46gm, and I haven't had another test yet, so I don't know what it is now. I get it at the health food store.
