Guest guest
I use some NOW products and have been happy with the quality (I won't use all of them...gotta read the labels EVERY time!) but can't speak for their fish oil. The New Chapter WholemegaEZ will give a person with inflammation or acne visible results within 2 weeks so therefore I think it's a good product. I bit into one and it basically tastes like salmon and herbs. It's preserved with essential oils which also has it's own benefits. Pricewise it's quite reasonable and there's no fishy " after taste " . I'm a bit paranoid about oils in general because rancidity is no bad for us and oils don't tend to last a long time and the summer heat is really bad for them too. Some health food stores keep supplements in sunny areas of their stores so be sure to check the location when buying anything of that kind. Temperature changes on a daily basis are sure to damage any product. Sharon > > > > hello everyone, > > > > I wanted to ask if any of you were taking fish oil? Guest guest
No, just the health food store. If yours carries the NC line, they can order it for you. They should have it since it's one of the few reliable companies in this industry. Guest guest
My husband has fish oil prescribed to him from the VA. I don't have a bottle handy but I would imagine that they have an expiration date. I am wondering if they go past the expiration date, if they are still good? I know some things are good way past the expriation dates. If they are rancid but only slightly, how would I know? How can I tell if they are rancid if the bottle has never been opened? Side note: My husband doesn't take them like he is supposed to so we have bottles and bottles of the stuff. Sylvia
Guest guest
My daughter is 3 1/2 and has severe motor and speech apraxia. I am beginning to look into suppliments that may help her. She also has a genetic deletion and a history of infantile spasms. I thought I had read at some point in the last few years that fish oil can cause seizures. In doing research recently, all I find is the opposite effect. I was wondering if anyone has experience with this? Also, what types of fish oil and dosages are appropriate? Thanks! The literature is mixed on this. For people with an autoimmune condition, a little suppression might even help. At any rate, the degree of immune suppression is at worst mild and seems to disappear with antioxidants, particularly vitamin E. I have no evidence to back me up, but that fact suggests that people are storing fish oil at room temperature instead of in the freezer. This can cause racemization, which might be the culprit. I would suggest the benefits of fish oil outweigh the problems, unless you have an ongoing infection, such as mono. Just keep the oil cold and take some E and garlic. Guest guest
Tks for responding Chuck. I was concerned because it really does bring down my lipids and raise my HDL ... didn't want to stop. I eat fresh garlic almost daily in every food I prepare - I'm certain I get WAY more than the average person, & been taking vitamine E since early 20's (in my 60's) as gyn advised for breast tenderness/fibrocystic breasts. That is one of the things that iodine DOES seem to help, but only at the 1 mg per day level. There is an ongoing NIH funded study of this. The preliminary results a few years ago showed that the benefits went away with larger doses. I am usually an iodine skeptic, but that is for the larger doses. It also seems to induce or aggravate Hashimoto's above the RDA of 150 mcg, so I would encourage caution. Chuck
