Guest guest
We started our son on Nutriiveda last February/March when he was 3.5 years old and saw almost immediate improvements in his speech, articulation, expression, facial expression and behavior. It was nothing short of astounding. We observed these changes in him, and so did his speech therapist, occupational therapist and preschool teacher. Unfortunately, we have had a lot of challenges potty training him and being on the Nutriiveda did not seem to help this matter at all. In fact, we continued to struggle with potty training for many, many months. When school restarted this fall, we discussed his potty training problems as part of his IEP process (we are in a private international school as we live abroad) as it is compulsory that he is potty trained to be in this school (which is our only option as we need to have him in an all English environment where he can receive support services). We also discussed the matter with our pediatrician. In the end, we decided to take him off the supplement to see if it was somehow impacting his ability to control his bowel movements. Within a few days, we started to see a change in his behavior. He started to lose his ability to control his impulses and started to get into minor conflicts with peers at school (like pushing in line, not siting during circle time etc) He also became more obstinate and difficult and refused to work with his therapist during speech sessions etc. Luckily, there didn't appear to be a regression with his speech intelligibility which was really fabulous. After keeping him off Nutriiveda for eight long weeks, we made a decision to put him back on it. Unfortunately we didn't notice as dramatic or as quick of a change as we did the first time that he went on it. However, after two and a half weeks, we started to notice the good changes again--specifically the changes in his behavior and an increase in his ability to focus. Feedback from his preschool teacher regarding his interaction with peers and general cooperativeness was extremely positive! While we are so pleased that we have our sweet, better behaved, focused child back again--we are now extremely concerned that Nutriiveda is essential and that scares us because is it okay for a now four year old to be reliant on an a supplement (even a " natural " one) to control his behavior? How long will we need to keep him on it? Is it truly safe? Are there going to be any negative side effects that have not yet been uncovered and/or will be brought to light in the future? Finally--we still have not resolved his potty training issues--he continues to be the most inconsistent child when it comes to having pee pee and poop accidents. He can't seem to recognize when he needs to go to the bathroom and has no social awareness that it is just not okay to go in his pants. I have read the archives and I know there are others who struggle with this issue in our group, but we are really our wit's end with this and we are very concerned about keeping him mainstreamed in this school. Any suggestions or any advice (apart from all the usual ones as I have read all the books and all the past posts and I am still desperate for something innovative to help us) will be warmly appreciated.
