Guest guest
Hi everyone, I thought I would post our experience on Nutriveda. My son, Brett, is 11 years old, diagnosed with apraxia at age 2, along with global dyspraxia and ADHD. He is in regular ed 5th grade, with RSP support in language arts and math. He currently receives speech therapy 2x/week, OT 2x/week, and vision therapy 2x/week. He's also very active in sports, including horseback riding, all of which have helped his gross motor skills immensely. His speech is by no means normal. Still many articulation problems, and his prosidy is odd. Many fine motor problems as well, and continues to struggle with handwriting, although he's a pretty good typist. At any rate, we started Nutriveda 3 weeks ago, with hopes that it would be a miracle. That said, I don't think it's been a miracle for him, but I have definitely noticed positive changes. I have not seen his fine motor skills improve, although I had great hopes for that. Also have not seen his ADHD-type behaviors improve much. He is typically on meds, but is off them right now for other medical reasons. I was hoping the Nutriveda would help enough that he could be med-free, but this has not been the case. Maybe a bit more focused, but still very impulsive. Gross motor has improved noticeably since starting. He just seems stronger, able to throw balls harder and farther, better motor planning, etc. Speech has definitely been better. I wouldn't say articulation or clarity is changed dramatically, but maybe a bit. The biggest change I have seen is in the complexity of his language. For example, after only 2 days on Nutriveda he was taking a shower, and I told him he needed to be done. Instead of saying, " In a minute " or something like that, he said, " Mommy, please allow me to enjoy the warmth a bit longer. " Huh??? Did he turn into an 18th century British gentleman on this stuff? A couple of days ago he was playing a game on his Nintendo DSi, and was explaining the game. A very long explanation, which wasn't unusual except I could understand him better. Then he said, " I didn't want to try that mode, because that would make the game much more chaotic. " Now, he does have a large vocabulary, but doesn't typically use words like that in speech. A couple days before that, he heard the name on the radio. He would normally say something like, " in my class " to let me know there's someone by that name in his class. This time he said, " Oh, , just like the that is in my class. " Much more complex, with complete thoughts. His speech is also more mature. Hard to explain. Maybe something in the tone of his voice, or the speed of his speech, or maybe it's the more complex language, but he definitely sounds more like a typical 11 year old boy than he used to. So I have noticed some very positive improvements since we started Nutriveda. That said, since yesterday I have reduced his dose from 4 scoops a day to 2, because we are almost out. Today he was even more unfocused than usual. His speech was much less mature, although the complexity of language was still pretty good. He is back to being high pitched, and just sounds younger. This is really saddening me, because unfortunately we aren't going to be able to buy any more Nutriveda. My mother had agreed to buy our first shipment to see if it would work, but she probably won't buy any more as she is on a limited income. My husband was laid off last May, and only brings in unemployment. I work part time in a special ed preschool, but our income doesn't go too far these days. I know it's been said that if it's important you'll find a way, but honestly, Nutriveda costs more than my monthly food budget (okay, I am very frugal, but I have to be right now). Plus, we're not using Nutriveda as a meal replacement for Brett. He is on the small side and needs to gain weight (but looks noticeably bulkier in a good way since Nutriveda). So we have to provide a good amount of food for him, in addition to Nutriveda. Any suggests from anyone as to how to afford this? Not MLM programs, but earnable income? I would do anything to help my son, and would love to keep him on Nutriveda longer to see if the improvements keep coming, as seems to be happening with Tanner and . If I can't find some extra income somewhere, we'll have to stop Nutriveda til my husband finds a job. Just a shame to waste time, know what I mean? Thanks for listening! Guest guest
I actually laughed out loud at your " Mommy, please allow me to enjoy the warmth a bit longer. " Huh??? Did he turn into an 18th century British gentleman on this stuff? " So relate to this change and thank you for also noticing the hard to explain " more mature " and " different " You can't put your finger on it -but things are firing in all engines as far as I can see. I know I've shared with a bunch of you here over the phone and can't remember if I wrote it here but that within the first weeks on nutriiveda for us too Tanner walked up to me all serious and said " I'm perplexed Mommy " (talk about a perplexing statement -I mean he's talking and I'm thinking to myself " since when would Tanner use the word " perplexed " -I didn't even know he knew what it meant!) And when I said " why are you perplexed " He said " I'm perplexed because in Social Sciences some of the kids have to answer the questions and some get to ask the questions and I am one of the kids that has to answer the questions and there is just so much to read and I don't know what the kids are going to ask me....I don't think it's fair that I have to be one of the kids that answers the questions and why can't I be one of the kids that asks the questions. I'm just perplexed Mommy I'm perplexed and I'm wondering if you can speak with Miss Patty for me? " Silence in the room as I sat there like I was watching a movie forgetting this was real life. OK for sure he knew what perplexed meant -I felt it too! I tried to act like this was a completely normal conversation when I answered " Why don't you talk to Miss Patty yourself? " And he said " I am but wanted you to speak with her as well for me " Well ended up each of the children were taking turns -but the point is that was one of the first changes I too noticed. Keep in mind that for those of us with older children -yours 11 and mine 13 -in my opinion the fact that we are seeing any what I would consider to be dramatic changes in this area just like that -for something in reality that is so simple -is quite remarkable (dare I say miraculous?!!) Don't know about you but my first report back even before I said anything about speech changes at the time was from Miss Patty -head of school -the school noticed his dramatic academic surges -kid's turned into a geek -constant reading now. And it doesn't just work a bit for a few days or weeks and stop working -you and all of us have read Mel's blog http://littlemermaidmelanie.wordpress.com/about See to me -this is a miracle -what you posted to. I mean come on -we give our children some ayurvedic protein " chocolate milk " for a few days or weeks and they all of a sudden change???? For the way better? They regress when we take their dosage from the 4 scoops (even when they don't need to lose weight) down to 2 scoops...why? Why would they regress on 2 scoops that much? I've seen it in Tanner -Robin's got it in Mel's blog how - I mean Mel went back to being essentially catatonic sitting on the couch watching TV again no facial expressions and once again unable to hold a spoon to feed herself- but she was still on 2 scoops...and that was in only 3 days! Why? did you notice any difference in humor or facial expressions? Well the survey will be out shortly -we cover all the points. As far as affording it -yes for sure you want to make sure your child eats because the product has no fat or sodium and our children are growing and these things are so important -but as far as having to provide full meals??? I mean I know psychologically we feel as Sharon says that pancake is so important -and perhaps it is...but in comparison to the density of nutrition in the nutriiveda? Each scoop has 10 grams of protein in it, all the essential amino acids, complete nutrition -can be full meal and vitamin replacement! (and what you are missing is fat and sodium -both pretty easy to " fix " for growing kids in our society!!) It comes out to 2.70 a meal...when we give Dakota money for school lunch it's at least 3 to 5 dollars...a day at his school! (Dakota never ate lunch prior because he's never hungry and just wants to hang out with his friends -but he's very thin so we give him the nutriiveda for lunch so he can drink it and hang out with his friends...and half the cost of the school lunch! he also now has it WITH a small breakfast too, maybe one egg and toast -2 pancakes, a small bowl of cereal- he ate much more prior...and he does eat normal dinner -snacks -but would say he's eating less) Both my boys since being on the nutriiveda appear to be going through growth spurts -I feel short..and Dakota who also has ADHD too -Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay calmer -more talkative and focused. He's always been bright but more focused on doing school work. Got to be cheaper than meds -but we never put Dakota on meds so wouldn't know. I also cut Tanner's fish oils in half and it doesn't matter as it did before -so that saves a bit of money too -Dakota (and this may be your son's issue if he's ADHD) still needs the 100 percent full dosage of his fish oils which is high -he takes 5 ProEFA and 5 ProEPA a day) My whole family is on it and think we are all healthier for it - I'd be horrified if I had to be without it and know I'm not the only one that feels that way and not just speaking about my own family -but others I know on it too...if I did have to choose just one in the family to be on it however of course that would be Tanner- poor little guy after all he's gone through has a whole new world thanks to this product -it's changed his life in just about every way across the board - and yes I'd say it's a miracle. I mean in the scheme of things we've had our kids in therapy various therapies for what??? Years? And you after weeks and Tanner after months see this much? If you told me this a year ago I'd think this wasn't possible -and if the pediatrician told me this was one thousand dollars a canister but would have these changes for Tanner ...I would figure out someway -somehow ....and we all have our reasons for loving it. I guess in the scheme of things who cares I went from a size 4 to a size 2 and feel so much energy and focus -but would be willing to give up all junk food to pay for this which is so easy now -food bills are down and garbage man has to be happy too as OMG so way less garbage we are throwing out too. Just think -people that drink Starbucks every day spend more money to put it in perspective -and I know some of the people for real addicted to that who can't afford it but do. Don't know how -but yes people do find a way to get things they really want -even when they aren't good for them. =====
