Guar gum is a thickener and quickly gels when mixed with water (which you must do to ingest it). It's important that it's not TOO thick or you can choke. However when used correctly, it's fine. I've used it on and off for a couple of months and have had no problem with it. I've just tried the pudding suggestions and intend to incorporate it as an anti-hunger device. If it's effective in my one woman experiment, I'll add it to the file: " Aids and Tips "
Guest guest
If you're aware that fiber absorbs water and coagulates, thus may obstruct you esophagus, then that's half the solution. Either dilute it with enough fluids, and/or wait until it coagulates and only then consume it. I once mixed some fiber with not enough fluids and *immediately* drank it. I actually felt it coagulating in my esophagus. A bit scary. You can also choke on fish bones, but the FDA is not smart enough to ban that :-) Micky. Guest guest
Thank you. Seems like the pudding would be in a coagulated state, and thus pretty safe (absent large lumps of uncoagulated powder, which wouldn't be very appealing anyway). -----Original Message-----From: Micky Snir [mailto:mickys@...]Sent: Monday, May 27, 2002 10:23 AM Subject: RE: [ ] Question re guar safetyIf you're aware that fiber absorbs water and coagulates, thus mayobstruct you esophagus, then that's half the solution.
