It worked wonders for my son who was on it for 14 months. Unfortunately he

put on 45 lbs in the last 18 months (last 2 months on Cylexa) and we finally

took him off of all SSRI's to see if the weight gain would stop.

Hi Sandy,

Zeb takes 50mg. of luvox. They reduced him last month from 75mg. but he did

much better on that dose. He is somewhat calmer and easier to reason with and

his appetite had decreased on the higher dose. I haven't seen a difference on

the 50mg. We will be seeing the dr. next week and hoping that she will

increase it again. The only thing that I have really noticed is that he

sweats more. He was always the little hot man but even on the freezing cold

days the sweat was pouring down his face.

nathan has been taking it for about 2years now and it has hleped his OCD

tremendously!!! We just recently upped the dose to 50mg from 37.5 mg daily. so

far he is doing better, no melt downs lately but the insomnia kicked in again

last few nites, and he takes all his meds earlky every monring. Luvox is also an

antidepressent so will lightlen the mood some too. nathan usually rather a goofy

boy on it,lol. quite the comedian. good luck shawna

Thanks Caroline for your response. Do you think the weight gain was

from the Luvox?

Most definitely. We will know for sure in the next 8 weeks since he is now

off of it and all SSRI's. Oddly enough, his behavior is not too bad so far

(it's been 1 week since he has been off of everything). I was anticipating

the worst but he has been very calm and doesn't appear at all anxious. It

would be great if we could keep him medication free....

I opened a can of worms here and I really wish I could remember what the

doctor said to me about Luvox not being an SSRI. We do have an appointment on

Monday and I will pump her for details! I am now very curious myself. Kelley

I've looked Luvox up on a couple of sites and so far it is classed as an

SSRI. Now I'm really curious about what the doctor told me! The only other

meds

my girls take are Abilify and Risperdal so I'm pretty sure it was the Luvox

she was talking about. I'll get to the bottom of it! Kelley in NV

Luvox is an SSRI that is chemically unrelated to the other SSRI's. I

Thank you, Bonnie--that must be how I got the Luvox thing in my head. I

vaguely remember her saying something about it and can't remember exactly what.

You would think I'd know what three of the four people in the house take--I'm

just glad it works! I'm still going to ask the doctor about it on Monday.

Okay, I asked the doctor about whether or not Luvox is an SSRI and was told

that technically it isn't. She said it is an antidepressant that is

chemically different than SSRI's and that since it does effect seratonin, it is

frequently put in the same category. She said that it doesn't do the same

things all

other SSRI's do. I mentioned that in things I pulled up on the internet, it

was labeled an SSRI and that several people on this site had been told that it

was and she still wouldn't say otherwise. Please don't shoot the

messenger--I'm just repeating what I was told. I'm just glad it works for us!

Thanks Kelley, but I am like you, it is working for Bre so at this

point it doesn't matter! If it ever " poops out " , then I will cross

that bridge! It is interesting though how all these medicines work.

Hi, . My girls both take Luvox and we saw some results within couple of

weeks but not the full effect for about nine weeks. I started taking it

myself in May and didn't notice changes right away but did notice them after

about

four weeks. It did take longer for me to feel a lot better--I'm not sure how

long. Maybe three months? I take 200 mg a day, as does my youngest

daughter. Hannah takes 300 mg a day. I hope that it helps your son. Kelley in

Hi , my daughter is 14 and on 225mg of luvox. It took a couple of

months to work. She splits the dosage and takes it in the morning and

when she gets home from school. Is your son in therapy?

My son changed to generic luvox this summer- after taking Zoloft &

before that Prozac. He takes 100 mg in the evening. He also takes

Strattera, Abilify ( changed for respirdal) & ritalin. seems to be

working for him. He just turned 16. Joy Ct
