Guest guest
Our SLP started with our son right away. At the time he only had 1-2 words. He's making a lot of progress with it and now she rarely has to prompt him. It's only reallly been 1-2 months since we started the prompting. Guest guest
Did you mention how old your son is? My 9yo dd had about five or less words, if we called them that when she started Prompt in prek when she got her severe apraxia dx. Prompt continued into K with our SD. The SD SLP just told me last year that Prompt doesnt work as well as they get older, it works better with the little ones. So she said she does not need it as much now. Are you getting services thru SD? Guest guest
Ivy: TO address your questions about whether or not a child needs a repertoire of words before PROMPT will work, I wanted to share our experience. From my perspective, the answer would be no (although I'm not an ST - just a mom). My son started PROMPT therapy at around 29 months and had almost NO words. Our Speech therapist almost exclusively used PROMPT with him, and he flourished. We recently moved and, because we've seen such incredible results with PROMPT, we've found another PROMPT therapist in our new city. So - he's been using PROMPT therapy for 18 months and I really believe that it, along with fish oils and the NutriiVeda supplement, have been the 3 best things we've done for him You can check out video footage of his progress at our family apraxia blog (www.apraxiastory.blogspot.com) I think I have some on there from before PROMPT, then after. He is not on the severe end of the apraxia spectrum, but we've still had our challenges and even with what was considered decently fast progress, it still felt extremely slow. Hate to hear the supplementation you've tried has not been working for you. And sorry that I don't have perspective on the center you mention below. Just wanted to share our PROMPT experience.
