Guest guest
I just want to finally document this here as it's now happened over a week ago and even though I've shared this with a number of you thought it's important to share with all before I forget any details. Two weekends ago my boys were invited over for a sleep over at the neighbor's for their son's birthday. Since it's right next door sometime Saturday Tanner came back prior to the party ending and asked me " Mommy if someone is sick and they cough right in your face can you catch it? " (me) " You know that -of course! Who coughed in your face?!! " Well seems like one of the children there was sick but his mother (supposedly) thought it was allergies...needless to say by Sunday night a number of the children had sore throats -including Tanner. Now this is the part that is very interesting. If you check the archives Tanner is the type of child that will break his finger and it won't really hurt. He once split his eyebrow open on a doorway because he used to close his eyes when he smiled or laughed early on and the only one that I heard scream was Dakota. He got a fishing hook stuck in his leg and had to have that taken out and everyone at the hospital was shocked at how " brave " he was. My boys are rarely sick but once apparently Tanner had quite a severe ear infection and the doctor was in total disbelief that it didn't hurt Tanner at all. Kept saying " that doesn't make sense " And same goes for sore throats. Tanner's sensory issues are that he can somehow know something is hurt -but he doesn't feel pain like others. Yes Tanner has sensory integration dysfunction -same child used to say " ow " and flinch in pain if you tickled him or patted his head. Up till that Sunday night in spite of the tremendous amount of surges we all witnessed in Tanner which you can read here http://pursuitofresearch.org/testimonials.html as well as in my letter- I did not believe nutriiveda was helping with sensory issues -and nobody hear reported it either that I can recall. In fact as you notice I don't mention sensory here http://pursuitofresearch.org/pursuit.html . I thought that was the one area is 'didn't' help -and oh well -it helped just about everything else so I didn't really care much. I told Tanner he was staying home from school the next day (Monday) so I could take him to his pediatrician. The next morning Tanner woke up and said " Mommy my throat hurts so much even when I don't talk or don't swallow. It's really hurting me " So I said " Oh no Tanner that sounds like strep throat " I mean I'm taking his pain which he is saying is so severe and in my head thinking " wow it must be really bad " Of course his pediatrician knows about Tanner pain/sensory issues and examines Tanner -looks at his throat which is red -hears the entire story and decides to do the more advanced strep test which means we won't know till that Wednesday -but wanted to start Tanner on antibiotics that day just in case based on his own report. Now we go into step 2 of observations. Tanner didn't read much over the weekend as he had been so busy with friends -but he was still spotted carrying around one of his books (always a new one now) and reading here and there. By the 2nd day of antibiotics I noticed Tanner's speech got bumpy -which didn't happen when he was first sick which in itself is very cool. And...he had completely stopped reading his books. So once again I was back to asking him about reading -something I had not had to do for months now. " Tanner why aren't you reading? " " I don't want germs on my books " " You're on antibiotics so you're not contagious " " I just don't feel like reading right now " Late Wednesday we found out that Tanner did NOT have strep- and yet his throat still " really really hurt " It was the kind of almost hyper pain he experienced when I had first put him on vitamin e at the low dosage- very unusual. Even though Tanner didn't have strep he wanted to continue his antibiotics which the doctor said he didn't have to..the reason " because his throat really hurt " but I had him stop taking them so he was off them as of Thursday (he was only put on a 5 day dose -and only 2 days left anyway) All that week he did not read except when he had to read at school. Tanner did not go back to where he was prior in both speech and wanting to read again until the following Tuesday -for sure by Wednesday -almost one week after being off antibiotics. I know that nutriiveda is not known to contradict any medications -but I am not curious if antibiotics can contradict at least to a point the ability for nutriiveda to work to it's full capacity. From what I can tell there was a regression, not severe- but bumpy speech and not reading are the two main things I noticed -and it lasted days after we stopped. So just wanted to throw this out there as Tanner has been on nutriiveda now solid since mid October and this new found sensory ability which is awesome we only just noticed recently. So perhaps sensory takes longer to kick in? Also just wanted to give everyone a head's up about antibiotics not to worry if there is a slight regression while on them. Tanner is fully back ON to above and beyond where he was before. Did I tell you guys how much I LOVE nutriiveda??? Yes I'm back to listening to him speak and thinking " wow that's a great sentence! " Even just thinking of him speak so normally makes me smile. =====
