Guest guest
Hi everyone, I have a question for is the children's omega 36 9 junior the same formulation as ProEFA but a lower dosage. My daughter is almost 3 so what dosage of the children's do I give her that equals the same amount as she would get from ProEFA capsules. I just want it to have the same benefits as if she were taking ProEFA. I am in Ontario Canada and may be able to get the Complete Omega 3 6 9 Nordic Naturals through special order but wanted to try this because it is specifically for children and therefore I know it would be safe. any info would help. Guest guest
Hi Darlene! There is no such thing as " children's " fish oil- they are all the same. But yes the Omega 369 Jr or ProEFA Jr is the exact same as the regular capsule in formula -but about twice as expensive since for around the same cost you get the same amount of capsules but they are an exact half dosage of the regular. One regular capsule is about what the FDA approved for infant formula so by using a Jr. capsule with a 3 year old you are providing just a 1/2 dosage of what would be fine for a baby. The regular capsule is what we used in this group for years -the Jr. version was probably the best marketing thing Nordic ever did. I do like them because they are great for those with older children who want to teach their child to swallow capsules -but other than that...cute bottle but worth twice as much money? Not in my opinion. In addition most parents will use 2 Jr. capsules and since they are a half dosage that means they are using the equivalent of one regular capsule -but instead of just having to try to squeeze the oil out of one capsule -now they have to squeeze the oil out of 2 teeny capsules. Again the Jr. bottle is way cuter- I'll give it that. But no it's not a children's fish oil and not enough of a dosage in my opinion for the kids in this group as it's only a half dosage of not only what is found in most infant bottles that use EFA enriched formula -but what we used in our parental and professional anecdotal feedback http://www.cherabfoundation.org/2001/cherab-foundations-first-apraxia-conference Here's more from our facebook apraxia.org page Fish Oils 101 http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=115029735601 & topic=7401 =====
Guest guest
Hi Darlene, I'm in Ontario as well and can get my local health food store to order in the complete 3-6-9 for me. the dosage from that is safe and trust me....you don't want to be squeezing out the teeny capsules from the junior version. it is such a pain and really not worth the effort! 2 of those teeny capsules is equal to 1 regular. it's the same formulation and it's safe for all ages. hth sandy ________________________________ From: d <caraashlee@...> Sent: Fri, March 26, 2010 6:40:42 PM Subject: [ ] children's omega 3 6 9 junior  Hi everyone, I have a question for is the children's omega 36 9 junior the same formulation as ProEFA but a lower dosage. Guest guest
so the NN complete Omega 369 adult bottle which is the commercial version of ProEfa I would give my daughter one capsule a day and it would have the same benefits of ProEfa? Also, do I have to give her more EPA on its own. NN has this in a bottle to purchase separately so is it safe to start off with or do I wait a while and add this to and how many capsules of this do I start off with with the Complete Omega 3 6 9 (adult) Can you provide a link to the EPA from NN that is good for my 3 year old to take with the Complete Omega. Thanks for all your info so far! All the posts I have read have been really imformative. I love that this group is available. Guest guest
Sorry for another fish oil question, but we have been giving our son Carlson fish oil 3mL every day - Bottle contains the following per 5mL omega 3 fatty acids-----1600mg EPA---------------------800mg DHA---------------------500mg other omega 3-----------300mg We didn't see a big surge when we started our son on fish oil about 6-9 months ago, but he had a lot of other things going on at the time (including ng tube) - he has since started to talk a bit (mostly approximations of words, but at least is attempting to communicate verbally) - just wondering if missing the omega-6 and omega-9 is the reason we didn't see such a surge. Wondering if it's worth it to stop the Carlson fish oil now (even though just recently bought a new 500mL bottle) or if his current dose of the Carlson formulation is enough. Thanks in advance!
